They're not obscure, really. In some cases, (Kanye West for example) theyre actually bigger selling acts than the Stones are.

Either its a case of a type of music we dont listen to or the fact that as we're getting older, we dont pay any attention to what's current anymore.

Not all of them are obscure, certainly not Kanye West, but a large percentage are. I'm talking about bands like Maximo Park or Soullive; regardless of what one thinks of their music they're not exactly famous bands. I don't ever remember bands with no hits and no radio play opening for them before '95. Even when it was somebody who I thought sucked like Journey or Seal, I had at least heard of them. And I'm paying as much attention to new music now as I was then.

All support-acts for The Rolling Stones were great, my dream support-act is Diana Ross, because she's my 2nd favorite live in concert! She was long time my absolute favorite, but she dissapointed me in 3 from 12 concerts.

I've seen The Rolling Stones 10x and was not disappointed in all 10 Shows.

Hey Don,

Only Los Lonely Boys opened up for the Stones in '05, as far as I know, When were The Blues Brothers there?

The Blues Brothers opened in Chicago - Soldier Field - Sept. 10, 2005
It was Dan Ackroyd and Jim Belushi. Not sure who was in the band; but it was NOT the "studio Cats" from the Blues Brothers movie. They played about a half hour then the Los Lonely Boys came on. I think it was a one off gig opening for the Stones; being it was Chicago. The Blues Brothers then played the House of Blues the same night.

It's arguable that the folks at Knebworth in '76 got the best "variety pack" ;^)

LICKS: The Pretenders, Cranberries, Stereophonics, Counting Crows, Toots and the Maytals
Bridges/No Sec: The Corrs, Sheryl Crow, Foo Fighters, Bryan Adams, Zucchero, Dave Matthews,
Voodoo Lounge: Andrew Strong, Takáts Tamás DBB

And there are a lot which I don't remember.

The Seahorses.
The Hives.
Maximo Park.

The Hives by far the best. Can't decide who's more boring of the two others.

The Meteors Leicester May 76
Lynyrd Skynyrd 10cc Todd Rundgren and others Knebworth Festival Aug 76
Sheryl Crow Wembley 99
Tim Burgess Wembley Arena Sept 03
The Darkness Wembley Arena Sept 03
Primal Scream (but I missed them) Twickenham Sept 03
? (missed them anyway) MSG NYC Jan 06
? (missed them anyway) Twickenham 06
Paolo Nutini Sheffield 06
The Kooks Cardiff 06

Liked Paolo Nutini but he's a bit MOR for my taste likewise Sheryl Crow. Hated The Darkness I seem to remember The Meteors being good and even commenting to my friend that The Stones had a tough act to follow ... little did I know!
