Eric, i knew it was unofficial, boot to call it a boot is a little welloff my beaten track since it's in the studio and it's not like somebody in the audience recording the show.

LoFL - easy there! no need to get all ruffled. the term "bootleg" doesn't only refer to concert recordings.
there are lots of bootlegs comprised of studio outtakes/early takes/rehearsals.
you can think of them as "studio albums" if you want, but if it's not an official release
that the artists (or at least their record company) decided to put out, then it's a bootleg.
why do these come about? because someone who has access to the tapes decides to "liberate" them,
often because they can sell them to bootleg manufacturers/distributors.

Oh, I see. But "Bootleg" means (to me anyway) an unofficial record, no-matter if it's an audience recording or a soundboard recording.
Bootleg...the term comes from the American expression "bootleg whiskey", from the time where they had to hide the whiskey in their boot, as it was illegal to produce liqour there..for a while.

The compiled list and the roadmap to finding these tracks -- i.e., guitars101.com (special thanks to jamesfdouglas) has been an incredible gift.... um, wow. I haven't found EVERY song listed, but I've found enough to keep me satisfied for the time being!

You guys are something else -- all this time, and I'd never even heard of stuff like Too Many Cooks!

What kind of Stones fan AM I??? One step above clueless, at present.

Thanks -- and I hope other people, not-in-the-know, will find this stuff too.

same as with pretty much every studio bootleg. In a single word - theft.
