That said, I will of course see The Stones episode, but it's ONLY for the songs. Not the artists. I'd rather slurp shit from Demis Roussos' ass with a straw, than to watch that show.

Now that you better post on UTube for us all to see. smiling bouncing smiley

Kent you can't watch it for the songs without watching the artists.

You have to view it in the context for what it is. It is about singing not bands at that juncture. The Rolling Stones era is over. Kids do not really care about our era of music. Nor did most of us when we were that age. That is the way it has been for decades. Yeah there is always a few exceptions but it is a new era.

Hey the one kid from Texas - Casey can play guitar..

Hoping he tries to duplicate the live Gimme shelter versions from 1972 with a
Mick Taylor'ish lead guitar..

I've noticed that some of these kids are using the guitar as a "prop" because when you look at their playin and chords it does not look like they are even playin.

Big Mike comes to mind. When you watch him play guitar he looks like he has no clue as to what he is attempting to play. I don't know how they are getting away with it.

All get the boot, not worthy of singing Stones material next week

It was brutal, now I only have 2 left, can't remember a season where I had that few left at this point.

I missed the boys singing last week but I read that the kid with the hair Tim Urban, sang Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah".

I love that song did anyone hear it and was it worthy? I was shocked that one of these guys could find something that obscure.

Not that obscure any more:

Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen song)

Alexandra Burke, the winner of the fifth series of British reality television show The X Factor, released a condensed cover version of the song as a prize for her victory. It reached the Christmas Number One spot on UK charts on 21 December 2008. The music video features footage from The X Factor, connecting the lyrics to the story of Burke's victory.

The release of Burke's cover created interest in the previous versions of the song, including a Buckley fan campaign to take Buckley's cover to the top of the Christmas chart in order to deny Burke the top spot. The campaign was fuelled by Jeff Buckley fans' dislike of The X Factor's commercialism and the song's arrangement, as well as a desire by this contingent to introduce younger music fans to Buckley's version. Burke herself was not enamoured of the choice of song, remarking "It just didn’t do anything for me".

Burke's version broke a European sales record after selling over 105,000 digital downloads in just one day, breaking the previous record set by Leona Lewis. It sold 576,000 copies in its first week, becoming the fastest selling single released by a woman in the UK and the 2008 Christmas number one, while Buckley's cover charted at #2 and Cohen's original version at #36. On 28 December 2008, the UK Singles Chart listed Burke's version as the biggest selling single of the year, with NME announcing sales of over 1 million copies since its release. Burke's version of the song is the #7 best-selling download of all time in the UK, where it has sold 1.2 million copies. It was featured on Now That's What I Call Music! 72 and Now That's What I Call Christmas Tunes 2, as well as on her debut album, Overcome.

Burke's version reached #5 on the Biggest Selling Singles of the Decade from 2000–2009, beating every past X Factor contestant, including Leona Lewis and Shayne Ward. It was also the 6th biggest selling single of the decade in Ireland.

....this show is much more important that people realize....get past the stereotypes...get past the narrow mindedness of the obvious talent or lack thereof....if 40 Million viewers go out and buy Rolling Stones itunes or they get turned on and buy the Universal remasters or even better.........the Exile Deluxe package...it is the Rolling Stones fans that benefit ultimately...this will encourage the Stones further to either put out new material..or in some cases in even better..open the vaults....this show is a cultural phenomenon that translates into money which runs the music industry...think out of the box..!!!!

By Big Mick do you men MJ? I was never really fan of his guitar playing either, but watch I Can't Be Satisfied, which is a bonus on Biggest Bang. His slide guitar is really great there. The whole feature is truly great, arguably the best piece of the 4 DVD set.

Edit - Uhhh, now when I re-read your post, I see it is Big Mike, not Mick, so my point is probably somehow off. Sorry.

The songs will be somewhat truncated but give it a chance some of the kids might do well.

Can we have a guest appearance by someone from the band? eye popping smiley

i doubt it in this case, but it would be fun. jagger is the obvious choice as the band's singer...and it would certainly help boost album sales - that's been a proven fact for other theme nights on this show. then, again, jagger ain't so much a singer as a performer, so not sure how much mentoring he'd be capable of....

idol does stones - love it!

and it's been done many times in past AI seasons, too...nothing obscure about that song at all....

Hallelujah has already been overdone on the show. Any time one of the contestants does a song that has already been done to death on the show, I just groan. Original song choices are a better sign that someone is going to go a long way. I'm sure we'll be hearing Satisfaction, Wild Horses, Angie etc. tonight, what I'm looking forward to is someone actually picking one of the more obscure songs on the 50 song list, like Shine A Light!!!

Anything Cohen does is obscure. Most people don't know who he is let alone a 20 year old.

Where is Adam Lambert to show these kids how to sing.

Exactly, people who KNOW music know Cohen. As far as young fans I totally disagree with you on that. Young music fans are not listening to rock and especially Cohen.

99.999% of young fans will not even recognize his name.
