Faces' "A Nod's As Good As A Wink"
Posted by: Elmo Lewis ()
Date: December 29, 2006 04:02

Just got through listening to this on a nice ride on a cool Georgia night. It's so good. Rod, Ronnie, Ronnie Lane, Mac, and Kenny really rev it up on the rockers and touch the heartstrings on the ballads. "Too Bad" would be a great song for the Stones to cover. Love their version of "Memphis". Anybody else dig this as much as I do?

It's one of my ten favorite records ever.

Forgot to mention Mac's work on "Rude". Superb.

One of the greatest album titles ever.

Ronnie's rhythm chops were as good as ever. Such a fun album, probably the Faces' best. The Black Crowes did a great version of Miss Judy's Farm, but still probably not as good as Rod and the boys'. My personal fav on the album is prolly Debris.

Yeah, "Debris" present RL at his finest. Not enough words to say how much I like this album.

Cool cover, too. Somebody on here once claimed to be the guy "encouraging" RW (or possibly handing him a joint).

The poster with those Polaroid shots of the band (and groupies) that came with the first pressing of the album was pretty amazing.

Although I have a soft spot for Ooh La La, Nod is their most solid work.

Funny to find myself agreeing with Elmo, but yes, I certainly do! Up there with some of my fav. Stones albums!

Great album. Ending track of "That's all you need" always reminds me of the last cut on Led Zep III. Big Slide workout.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

I'm ashamed to admit I only have the Faces best of "Good Boys ... When They're Asleep." But it's one of my favorites. Ah, so much music to download, so little time.

So, semi-off topic, but what are the chances of the surviving Faces getting back together, even for a few one-off gigs? It's been discussed for years, but the Stones are on a break now ...

This was brought up over at Rocks Off not too long ago. Apparently,Rod and Mac,pretty much hate each other, and Rod has said no,to a Faces tour.

Damn, that sucks. Mac should just give back Rod his hairdo and let bygones be bygones.

Mac's current band is better than any Faces reunion would be. Jud is a better guitar player than Woody these days - although he'll deny it if you tell him that (I tried; he denied).

He's no fool, he doesn't want a bunch of Stones fans bitching him out for telling the truth. Any boots of Mac's current band floating around out there (or even official releases), as I doubt I'll be getting to Austin anytime soon?

That must be the best U2 cover ever. In unrelated news, I'm having trouble feeling my fingers. I had to type this shit five times before I could do it typo-free. As a result, I will now listen to and seriously contemplate the Kinks song "Alcohol."

i was listening to Johnnie Johnson and Keith do Tanqueray whilst enjoying a Tanq and Tonic tonite - I love it when you can find the right tune for the right drink.

So true. Is there a blues song called "Cheap Whiskey, Christmas Vacation and Too Much Time on My Hands?" I would love to jam out to it about now.

You know, Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off is such a cliche, but in this case it's true. And there is something sticky on my floor, so it ain't as easy as it sounds. Eww, it may be time for a shower.
