Rock N Roll is really meant for the young.

Drake- I'll admit Lions was a poor effort (in comparison to their whole body of work), but I feel like "Soul Singing" is close to one of their best tunes, Cypress Tree, Ozone Mama and Come On were notable for me as well on that album.

They absolutely rip it up on "Live at The Greek" with Jimmy P. Good to great stuff there for sure. Happy Holidays friend! Hopefully we can catch up and do an impromtu Stones jam in Jan (or even sooner!).

Don' get me wrong - I'll take what the crowes do over grunge any day!
Least they have fun playing!

I'll admit there were a few good tunes on Lions... Greazy Grass Rivver, Soul Singing, those are winners. And yes their live stuff is alot of fun. I have their whole discography and Lions is the one disc that I kinda skip past when playing them to people for the first time.

Crossfire, man we need to organize a Louisville chapter gettogether.

Well there is no doubt that the first Crowes album was heavily "stonish" in sound. Espicially Jealous Again, which might as well be called Brown Sugar2. But that was probably intentional for commercial reasons. It is still their best known album. But after that they really got into their roots of southern rock and blues. Their problem has been consistency. I have seen 2 Crowes shows. 1 was great the other one sucked. I saw them a couple years ago when they did a 4,5 night run at the Fillmore in San Francisco. They changed the set nightly, played a lot blues stuff, and just a few Crowes songs. But they were great the night I saw them, and just sounded like they were having fun.

i will just add my voice to the postive comments about southern harmony musical companion...what an absolutely KICK ASS rock album.. one of the last great rock albums in that style.. to me its so much better than anything else they ever did... i've tried to enjoy amorica and three snakes but just can't get into them.... if the black crowes had more albums like southern harmony they would be a great band...

i will add this in support of the theory that the black crowes are not a great band (with the exception of one truly great album and another good one):

go on amazon and you can get copies of most any black crowes cd for a dime....

people hold on to the great cds.. they don't sell them for a penny or get rid of them at garage sales for a quarter......

I agree with you but you should check out the lost crowes release from this year .Which is two albums that were mothballed by the band in favour of amorica and three snakes .To me the lost crowes provide the missing link between tshamc and amorica .

amazon is company's selling used things. go in mom and pop stores. it also depends on how many cd's were sold. you forget the black crowes first few albums sold tons mostly on CD while the rolling stones albums sold tons and probably 70% of the sales totals were on records and then the die hards purchased them on cd format

Southern Harmony, to me is more like Led Zeppelin II, Amorica seems more akin to Exile....sloppy, songs that don't immediately seem to fit together, but in the end it all works....BTW the Lost Crowes Cd that they recently released is really good....

Seeing them live, it becomes evident that they are sincere...they're basically just bunch of potheads who wanna play what and how they want to.

Very much looking forward to their new CD. 2006's The Freak N Roll into the Fog CD is the better of their live releases....the DVD ain't bad either.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

i'm not in denial. the price of it used doesn't depend on how many used copies there are. it depends on how popular the band still is. hence why the black crowes cd's are so cheap because in america the black crowes really aren't popular anymore.

btw prince is more popular here in terms of recent album sales then the stones so it just depends.

whoever mentioned the new lost crowes cd, yes it is very good

I absolutely love the Crowes, first of all for their music, but also for the fact that they're guided by what they want to do instead of what they think the business or the public wants them to do.
This has of course been a major factor in making them a marginal band commercially (at least when compared to their early 90's heyday).
Much overlooked here seems to be their soul influences, at times it sounds like they're MORE Sly Stone than the Rolling Stones... Still that's not all, they can go Louvin Brothers one day and the next day play a Stooges number. Or do Pink Floyd and the Clash at the same gig.
Not to mention having no problem with playing unreleased songs, even works-in-progress without fearing the bootleggers.

the Crowes may be the best cover band of all time. I've got a boot compilation of all their covers they did up until their short-lived disbanding a few years back. 5 discs - 6+ hours. Runs the gamut of musical styles - each done convincingly. Oh, and done sincerely, too....

Tod - I love that version of CYHMK/Sway, even if the latter is a soundcheck and all over the place!

yeah - that's a good one. i'll make the case that the Crowes do better reggae than the Stones, too.

fair enough. Chris sings it well, no doubt.

BTW here is the link, strongly recommended for any classic rock fan...covers range from Stones to Ziggy Marley to Gram Parsons
