According to C4 teletext there is still an available date for a concert at Wembley on June 9th 2007.

That would interfere with the rumoured Erfurt show on June 8.

by 'available', do they just mean 'no sports event or concert as yet booked for that weekend' ?

Read on Danish tele-text that England and Germany will face off for the official opening on August 22nd. The German coach said so although nothing has been confirmed from the English FA as of yet. It also says that the new Wembley will be ready for the summer of 2007.

i don't think the Stones care enough about England to want to be the first band anyway.. they already let Bon Jovi try to be the first last year and missed the chance to close the place too.. the UK is always thought about last if at all

Not necessarily. Their promoter John Giddings said during the summer that they could have booked the stadium for earlier in the summer but chose not to do so because they werent satisfied from the beginning that there was much chance of the place being ready in time. So, they booked it for August as that seemed a more likely 'safe' date and also Twickenham as a back up. The Stones were the only one of the four acts who booked the venue last summer to do so with any foresight - none of the others had a contingency plan for an alternative stadium venue in London and their fans were greatly inconvenienced by having to trek out to Milton Keynes. It was quite obvious for months that the expected May 2006 opening date was going to be touch and go, which therefore made any shows scheduled for June doubtful as well.

and
> missed the chance to close the place too..

Wembley closed in October 2000. The Stones by then hadnt worked in 16 months. They were hardly going to regroup in 2000 just to close a stadium

I would agree with you that they 'dont care' very much, though - but for different reasons.
