Mick makes the list of 100 best "heavy metal" singers - unbelievable

Who are the best singers in heavy metal history? According to Hit Parader magazine, Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin and Rob Halford from Judas Priest are the two best men for the job. The magazine has published their list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists," and the editors said, "Assembling our list certainly presented a daunting task, considering the breadth and scope of the metal empire during its 35-year reign as rock's most powerful and enduring force. We tried our best not to turn this into some sort of popularity contest where only the most famous (or infamous) frontmen in metal lore were recognized."

That might explain how the list includes well-known metal maniacs like Queen's Freddie Mercury, the Who's Roger Daltrey, Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones, Ann Wilson from Heart, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Ray Davies from the Kinks, Joan Jett, Steve Marriott from the Small Faces and Humble Pie, and Steve Perry from Journey.

It's a sad comment on metal as a genre when they have to go outside the genre to fill out a list of its best practitioners.

The main problem with heavy metal is that most people can't agree on what is and is not "heavy metal."

In my opinion, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, etc. are not heavy metal.

AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, KISS, and Van Halen are borderline heavy metal at best.

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden are heavy metal without a doubt.

Jethro Tull - not even close.

They should have taken the easy way out like VH1 did and called it "hard rock" instead of "heavy metal."

Well David Bowie had the Tin Machine band, so it's more understandable than Rod Stewart.

>> Mick's voice on Dirty Work made the difference. <<

hey - don't go blamin Dirty Work! :E
this reminds me of those sects that "induct" people by proxy without ever informing them,
let alone asking them if they have any wish to be inducted. i mean that is a seriously loony list.

Poor Roger Daltry. That Mick is always in his way!

I saw Ozzie and Black Sabbath perform last year at the UK Music Hall of Fame, my first experience with them.

Thought that each of them was very good. Ozzie was so thrilled to be amidst his peers -- Kinks, Eurythmics, The Who, Pink Floyd etc. that he was beside himself with excitement. Brian May gave a quite wonderful speech about Ozzie and Sabbath.

Unfortunately at the end of the set Ozzie became unglued and was mooning the audience in a major manner. Rather spoiled his big night and "induction."

i can't see that. musically SABBATH have nothing in common with the other two. the Sabs riffs were just bluesy rock n roll played slow and loud. they aren't what i'd call metal

for me metal is twiddly widdly nonsense, high pitched vocals and songs about fantasy shit
