It's not just the chord chanhgs, but the drummer also is using his Hihat hand on the floortom, like Charlie in Brown Sugar. The Dandys IMO do not have one original bone in their body. Sure, they can craft a decent pophook (and call themselves alternative), wear their hair in the latest rebel fashion, tear their blue jeans and pop a little Heroin, but they matter about as much as another Chevy Vega off the assembly line.
"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."
Great song IMO!!! It rocks! Sure it sounds like stones music but it doesn't sound like a specific number to me. To sue someone the melodie has to be the same and that is not the case here.
I don't think you can sue every heavily Stones influenced band in the world, but I agree it's a shame so many bands get stuck in this bands groove. Saw the Dandy Warhols support Bowie in Dublin a few years back. The longest hour of my life!
On the Come Down album Zia McCabe is wearing a Stones T shirt. And they emerged around the same time as The Brian Jonestown Massacre so they are fans obviously.

They sure were, met one of them in the elevator of my hotel in Valladolid drunk as a skunk the day of the postponed show back in August.

in the video for this song - i presume you're talking about 'Bohemian Like You' - one of the band is wearign a vintage stones t-shirt as well...i think they realised what they were doing, but if anything it was good natured fan worship more than 'owt else...
"why is an inro or a riff not protected by copywright laws? they are stealing music that someone else created."
This would open a whole can of worms in regards to the Stones own catalog for sure. I think this is something they would rather leave alone. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Yeah, Chuck Berry would have quite a lot of money to be made in copyright infringement.
The Dandy Warhols are a fun band. Their last cd (odditorium of mars) is very very cool. They are by no means a Stones rip off band. So they have cool riffs and a good beat, so what. They resemble the Velvet Underground much more than the Stones.
you dont seem to realize that the intro is the unique chord progression to Brown Sugar as written by the Rolling Stones. Chuck Berry is credited and got paid for the music he wrote that the Stones recorded. If your talking about the Cuck Berry rythem that the Stones use in Its Only Rock And Roll, thats just a rythem not a chord progression or riff or melody

maybe one chord has been changed but its still sounds like Brown Sugar at the start. Maybe its a "tribute". I just wonder how much of a piece of music can be copyed legaly. Lennon got sued for the one line "here comes old flatop". That didnt seem fair as it was obviusly a tribute to Berry.

Those chords are not the same as Brown Sugar, the way they are phrased and played is similar.
I have never heard of anyone succsefully suing someone for a chord sequence anyway.
Dude if anything this song sounds like "God Gave Me Everything" off Goddess, but in a happier key. You can say all you want about chord progression but the starts and stops are part of that progression, and are definitely not used in THIS song. Your theory is wrong, although you pointed out an interesting comparison to Brown Sugar.
