I just celebrated my 25th anniversary as a fan this past summer. I'm 34. These guys are like my 4 weird old uncles. And yeah, they're my one great obsession and have been a huge influence on my life & attitudes.
Even though it's easy (and getting easier) to be cynical about certain aspects of their career, when it all finally comes to an end, it's going to be huge - like a death in the family, in a lot of ways.
Since 1968. I didn't have any older brothers or sisters, but I had a couple of very cool babysitters who turned me on to the Stones. They had posters of them all over their bedrooms. The first 45 record that I bought was JJF. I still remember the London label turning on the record player and Child of the Moon on the flip side. I was 10 years old in 1968 and recall bopping down the street singing JJF. I had a young crush on Brian. I'm still waiting for a time machine to be invented. ; )
I remember as a kid when Sticky Fingers was a new album and I thought the album cover with a zipper was hilarious...also remember between the buttons cartoon album cover...
I think around '77-'78 was when I started to really get into them and bought their records... ahhh the memories...
I was a Beatles fan first then bought a Stones greatest hits lp in 82' when I was 15. The Stones rapidly replaced the Beatles as my favorite band. I gradually collected their lps through the eightees and they will forever be my favorite band.
I remember Satisfaction and Start Me Up from the radio as a child. Satisfaction seems to be the one song that no matter what language you speak, you at least know the chorus.
But officially, when I started to give a crap was 4 years ago when 40 Licks came out. I was 16, and it's been a hell of a journey
I have 1039 Stones Songs/Recordings/Live on my iTunes
I paid to see two concerts, but unfortunately could only go to one.
I would take a bullet for any of the Stones, land on a grenade for them, and sell my soul.
In 1973 we got a new boy in class and I struck up a friendship with him. In class we were only listening to Sweet, Slade (whom I still love dearly) and Suzi Quatro - but he was listening to Alice Cooper and Rolling Stones.
Weeelll, Alice I didn't care much for...but those Rolling Stones? WOW!! - 33 years on and I'm as big a fan as ever (and have caught up on Alice since then - I think his - early music - is way underrated)
30 years and counting. When the Stones step down or I survive any of them (I'm 45) my intensity of collecting and interest and manic Stones activity will no doubt increase to monstrous proportions. If that could be possible.
Since 1963 (I was 14). Still have my old school ruler somewhere with MickKeithBrianBillCharlie scratched on it. (Mind you, it has JohnPaulGeorgeRingo on it too, but nobody's perfect...)
I have been a Stones fan since 1964 when they first came out and I was 14. I am one of the oldest Stones fans in the entire Universe. Mick and Keith have NO room to trash Brian Jones. What has happened to them has been far worse than what has happened to Brian when he was alive.
Well I saw my first show on the some girls tour when I was 15, 16, something like that which makes me a stones fan for almost 30 years. Hey, happy anniversary to me!
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"
Since 1992 when I was 15. Thanks to my Dad and his great record collection, I discovered a new musical world that year going through all his vinyl in alphabetical order....
26 years - that means, more than half of my life i have been a stones fan (i am 41)! i became a fan in 1980 with "she´s so cold" (being then in love with a girl who wasn´t in love with me...))))
