How Long Have You Been A Stones Fan?

(Hopefully this isn't considered a meaningless thread by the self-appointed "forum police" <wink, wink nudge, nudge>)

Maybe a familiar story to many folks near my age (49), but the single event that turned me into a life-long Stones Fan occurred in 1975. That's when I heard The King Biscuit Flower Hour concert (now known as Brussels 73) on the radio. Three years later, I bought a copy of the "Bedspring Symphony" boot LP. In between, I started collecting Stones LPs.

So, for me, it's been 31 years (and counting).

24 years and counting. Sucks that I had to wait 7 agonizing years to catch them live.

since 1978 when i was 11 and some girls came out.

jjflash - you and i must've suffered the same insult since we're the same age and both from chicago - did you miss the rosemost show in '81? i didn't know about how to get scalped tickets so though i'd just wait for the "next tour" which i assumed would be in 2-3 years! that was a long wait...

yeah when I became a full fledged fan they left town already. I thought the same thing 2-3 years, they'll be back.

Bassplayer,

I am 49 also. My older brother was into the Stones in '66/67... playing his *new* "High Tides", "Decembers Children", & Aftermath albums...

I was around 9 years old!

The first "new" Stones that I got was "Between The Buttons"... I long ago passed my bro in Stones enthusiasm.

43 years -
just what the grown-ups were afraid would happen!
it wasn't pronounced incurable until 85, though

In 1981 I was a sophomore in high school and began to develop an interest in the Stones. Got Hot Rocks for Christmas I think. But in '82 they came out with the movie "Let's Spend the Night Together". I took acid for the first time and went to see the show. I was completely blown away by Keith's stage personna, the music, and Mick's incredible energy and performance that I was totally hooked from that point on. So, 25 very happy years now.

No offense...
It's great that you got in to the Stones...
however the drugs you were taking at that time just isn't relevant...

43 years for me, too. I can still see the picture of Mick I used to have stuck in my school hymn book to get me through those church services I was forced to attend.

i got into the stones in 1987, watching clips of them on telly from the 60,s prompted me to buy "love you live". i wasnt that impressed at first but it grew on me and then i started my collection.

wasnt aware at the time that the stones were still going, i thought they had finished in the late 70,s so it was a surprise to find they had done albums in 1980, 1981, 1983 and finally 1986.

then when it was anounced that they were going to make a new studio album, then a tour was like all my birthdays had come at once.

i must have bought over 35 albums in the 2 years between 1987 to 1989 so a lot of albums took time for them to grow on me while others i liked right away.

seen the stones twice.

Oh my . It reminds me of St Peters Grammar school and getting beaten with the window pole !! LOL

One nun used to hand out the times tables as punishment , I can remember as a kid lying on the floor in front of the television and writing 1X1=1 and so on . 'til my hand was sore. Once my dad asked me what I had done to deserve such a punishment and I said "nothing , just being prepared ". Sure enough 3 or 4 days later my efforts were paid of when a wise crack spewed forth from my mouth and I was assigned 5 sets of the infamous times tables . I whipped out my notebook and produced the work , I can thank Sister Francis Thomas for my incredible math skills that I now possesss .

Since my older brother started blasting their records from within the inner sanctum of his bedroom, from which I was denied access, in 1968. I was 8 years old and would sit outside his door and listen to the sounds coming from within, enraptured. I distictly remember the release of Sticky Fingers in 1971 when I was 10. My brother was blasting it from his stereo and the family car's 8 track player simultaneously, much to the neighbors annoyance and to my aprents when the cops showed up. Ahhh, salad days!

Another 43 here,My mother used to say I was more interested in those long haired layabouts than I was schoolwork, she was right of course but I have never regretted getting turned on to The Stones,
1963 seems a long time ago but I can still see them on Thank your lucky stars Fantastic!

"long haired layabouts"

now thats a contradiction, theyve made over 350 songs and done over 2000 concerts.

It wasn't a contradiction in 1963

Since 1965, when I first heard "Satisfaction" when I was in the 9th grade. Walking home from school, I would listen to my transistor radio through a small ear piece. The radio was about twice the size of a pack of cigarettes. My, how times and technology have changed!! Saw them for the first time in '66, the most recent in October in Seattle.
