What about a combo John Lee Hooker/J. Geils number

"Serve you right to Suffer"

Mick would kill on that song.

The Band used to shock everybody in the mid-1990s by covering En Vogue's "Free Your Mind". Now that they are no more, somebody else must cover TLC's "Waterfalls" and the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There".

:-)

Hey, Love the idea of "96 Tears"...I always thought it was Mick incognito anyway.

My suggestions for a cover:

Little Red Riding Hood - Sam The Sham and The Pharoes (Also Sounds Like Mick)

This probably sounds lame, but I've always thought the Stones could do a smashing version of The Eurthymics "Missionary Man". Some great harp in the song, and lends itself to good guitar interplay.

Bobby Womack's Across 110th Street - Perfect song for Mick to sing, he would sound great singing this one with lots of soul and passion. Ronnie could play some great funky wah-wah guitar and Keith would certainly find a spot to add a nice solo. Would sound sooo good.

Frank Sinatra's That's Life - I always felt like this was the best Sinatra song for them to play, specially since the great job they did to Night Time this tour. The song builds at the end, the band could do wonders with that, especially Charlie.

Long Black Veil - Just imagine the whole band singing this song with Mick and Keith's vocals up in the mix, harmonizing to that great chorus. Man, that would be beautiful.

Jimmy Cliff's Many Rivers To Cross - Would fit really well to Keith's vocals, I would love to see him singing this one with his special style of singing and playing some nice reggae licks a la Too Rude.

They should do an album of covers. They are great at that, many bands aren't. I would love it and I bet it would be a comercial success too.

Can;t see (an don't want to) the Stones covering a song by another current rock band. Something like "May Rivers" sound smore realistic.
Or some Hendrix, Hank Williams Sr, Walker Bros, Tom Jones, Meters.

I always thought since the band's name is The ROLLING STONES that that BOB DYLAN song LIKE A ROLLING STONE would be fun to play. Do you guys know that one?

Heleter, are you f*cking with us? Or are you real young maybe?
The Stones covered that song many manytimes on the 97-99 tour. It is avilable on the Stripped" album and on just about every boot from that tour. They even did it together with DylaN A FEW TIMES. But you're right - a great song.
