Jigsaw Puzzle

A very underrated song in my opinion, great lyrics, great slide-guitars... They have never performed it live but they should definitely give it a try. What do you think?

"Rape, murder, it's just a shot away..."

Great song from one of their best albums...not so sure how it would go down live tho..

Great...I love it...the ending part is magic!

Great sound, great playing, mediocre songwriting IMO.

I love this song. I don't want it ruined by a less-than stellar version. Mick's voice on the track is what sells it. I don't want him pulling a Crazy Mama '97 on it!

I'd like this song much more if Cindy didn't like it so much.....

LOL. I'm going to incorporate that phrase into my vocabulary somehow. "Don't piss me off or I just might have to pull a Crazy Mama '97 on your ass!"

I can just hear Mick introducing it now. "Here's one we never played before, I think it's from Emotional Rescue, innit Charlie?"

Great song, but I don't want to have to be the one who loads all these lyrics in the teleprompter:

There's a tramp sittin' on my doorstep
Tryin' to waste his time
With his methylated sandwich
He's a walking clothesline
And here comes the bishop's daughter
On the other side
She looks a trifle jealous
She's been an outcast all her life

Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do my jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

Oh the gangster looks so fright'ning
With his luger in his hand
But when he gets home to his children
He's a family man
But when it comes to the nitty-gritty
He can shove in his knife
Yes he really looks quite religious
He's been an outlaw all his life

Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

Oh the singer, he looks angry
At being thrown to the lions
And the bass player, he looks nervous
About the girls outside
And the drummer, he's so shattered
Trying to keep on time
And the guitar players look damaged
They've been outcasts all thier lives

Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

Oh, there's twenty-thousand grandmas
Wave their hankies in the air
All burning up their pensions
And shouting, "It's not fair!"
There's a regiment of soldiers
Standing looking on
And the queen is bravely shouting,
"What the hell is going on?"

With a blood-curdling "tally-ho"
She charged into the ranks
And blessed all those grandmas who
With their dying breaths screamed, "Thanks!"

Me, I'm just waiting so patiently
With my woman on the floor
We're just trying to do this jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

It would work in a theatre show, but they don't play those ones anymore. Maybe Scorsese is smart enough to have them play it for his forthcoming film on the Stones.

So was Mick in a serious Dylan phase when he wrote this? Seems like it.

Great song, one of my first favourites as a 13 year old... But the slide guitars are -- although pretty unique -- not that good after all. There is actually a version without them. Might go and listen to it now.

Aw right! Now I have to go have a listen to this REALLY LOUD!!!

Great song but don't think it would work live because Mick would need to play the harmonica parts which are played during the vocals. Also there are a lot of lyrics for Mick to remember.

Me too (but not really loud)!

To remember to read off the teleprompter.

Couldn't Blondie play the harmonica part?

Brian's. Which means Brian would have to be resurrected too. All in all, probably just too much hassle to bother with, i think....

Always loved this song. Beggars Banquet took a while to gel with me, but this song gripped me straight away.

Didn't even know she could play guitar at all. Is she the one that plays some of that cool guitar stuff on "Heart of Glass?"
