The Stones have played with several keyboardists over the years,,,
Chuck Leavell Billy Preston Nicky Hopkins Ian Stewart
Which one do you think contributed most? I suppose that many people would say Stu... I lean towards Nicky Hopkins myself, but I would be interested in people's thoughts...
(I imagine that this subject has been discussed here before...)
NICKY! Man he was a critical part of the creative team from BB up through It's Only Rock n' Roll...I am sure he was also a co-writer on many songs... Simply a beautiful player who is missed!
I love some of Nicky Hopkins playings on Stones albums........Stu of course is very important but Nicky is my favorite as far as the playing goes. Billy was good in '73 but I didn't care for alot of his playing by '75/'76.
Since the Q reads 'keyboards' I would say Nicky of course. Stu played the jangles like no one other and kept the Stones true, but Nicky was the Keyboards wizard.
"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."
Stu, who stuck to his principles about what he played and never appeared to be bitter about being "only" the sixth Stone.
But closely followed by Nicky, Exile would not have worked without his input. I know there are also credits to Stu and to Billy Preston, but this man makes Loving Cup perfect...
Mac's got the rocknroll chops, is always great to watch -- it's hard to imagine that his small hands can even cover an octave! But he didn't do enough studio work to enter this discussion.
STU = ROLLING STONES......he did it all...was a stone.. then he stayed on as a team player and helped them get to their gigs...played on many of their records and tried to keep them in a stady blues direction...
the stones themselves have stated he was the best and most important to them..
