Historians Needed

OK, I know our resident historian Gazza is off on a Brucegasm in Ireland, so I need the help of the rest of you experts. I am going to see the stones in LA Wed. Altough we don't know for sure. there is a possibilty this could be the last stones american show ever. I am particularly interested because I think I might have seen the last american Led Zeppelin show ever. This was in Oakland in I believe 1977. These were the shows where after the first show, John Bonham and Peter Grant beat up one of Bill Graham's staff. Then after the second show, was when I think Robert Plant's son died. Then they cancelled the rest of the tour, and never made it back to the states before Bonham died. My question is, do you know if they played one more show after the Oakland shows, or where they the last ones in the U.S as LZ

You don't need an historian, you need a web browser, ie. from wikipedia:

After a July 23 show at the "Days on the Green" festival at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California, John Bonham and members of the band's support staff (including manager Peter Grant and security co-ordinator John Bindon) were arrested after a member of promoter Bill Graham's Oakland concert staff was badly beaten during the performance. A member of the staff had allegedly slapped Grant's son when he was taking down a dressing room sign; when Grant heard about this, he went into the trailer, along with Bindon and John Bonham, and beat the man senseless.[7]
Although it was not known at the time, the following day's second Oakland concert would be the band's final live appearance in the U.S. After the concert, news came that Plant's five year old son, Karac, had died from a stomach virus. The rest of the tour was immediately canceled.

Duh right. That's what I thought. I guess I could have looked it up. Thanks Camper, you just settled a bet. In my favor.

Wow, cool. Amazing how much of that show I actually remember from almost 30 yrs ago. I knew they did some type of acoustic set. The set the day before was essentially the same from what I remember except they did Black Dog after R&R.

Looking at this its hard to believe that Zeppelin has not played in the USA in almost 30 years!!!

I had tickets in hand for the stadium show in Buffalo too. Until the cancellation. I still can't get over it. I've never seen them.

For me, it is the biggest disappointment in my rock music life. I was so looking forward to that show.

Yeah, I never thought taht at 15 I would be seeing the last US LED show. Now at 44 I may be seeing the last US Stones show. On one hand, I'm kind of proud of the distinction,on the other hand it's depressing. Now who am I going to go see? Britney Spears.lol
