He'd just be another bitter old has-been.

There would more than likely be speculation on whether Brian, MickT and Bill would be playing with the stones on their next tour.

Brian played the blues solos

Myth, mostly. He played a few great slide bits on I Wanna Be Your Man, Can't Be Satisfied, Little Red Rooster, and of course No Expectations, but very few leads beyond that.

OK, I'll play.

As with many others, I think he'd ultimately compete with his former bandmates.
Failing that, he'd become disgruntled and fade away as his star continued to fall.

I suspect that any band he'd try to front from there on out would be rife with
conflict and membership would fluctuate wildly. Could've formed a supergroup
with a contract clause as did Traffic, which stated people were free to come and go.

I'm sure Jones realized early on that he with the songs gets to be king. But he never
meant to create a pop band in the first place, which is why his attachment to his own
celebrity doomed his place in the band: Either write radio-friendly blues tunes or
find another band to play with, 'cuz the other Stones were comfortable in their
blues treachery than Brian was.

Jones wanted it both ways: Control and Musical Integrity. He got neither. Result?
Inevitable parting.

It's interesting to note that over the years Jagger and Jones had more in common
than has been observed. Keith is fine with churning out the same type of material
than is Jagger, yet at the time, Jones' restlessness with the material caused much
friction. Perhaps if Jones bitched less and contributed more he could have won
more "pull" in the band. Unfortunately, emotional immaturity derailed that.

If Brian Jones hadn't died, what do you think might have been?
I think he'd be alive then.

Would he have continued playing music? - yes.
Without the Stones? - well, you asked about him being alive, not about losing his job with The Stones, so the answer is No. He would have started a new band.
Back with the Stones? - No, Stones had Mick Taylor.

Switched careers completely? - No. He would have started a new band, He was a fan of ethnic music, so maybe - something ethnic mixed with the blues.

Brian's Ethnic Blues Band.

Brian's Ethnic Blues Band. With all-white members!

Bless them all but a Stones Discard Band sounds interesting, Wyman, Jones, Mick and Dick Taylor.

In some pictures I have, Brian looks a bit pudgy, more weight for one thing.

If he survived the Stones gauntlet, he might've cast about for while doing soundtracks and solo attempts, and eventually ended up one of those British genius recluse musicians who lives in a basement and a film is made about him 30 years later, and has a cult following.

Exactly he'd have become a cult-figure à la Kenneth Anger endlessly "working a new ground-breaking mixed-media project that'll blow everyone's mind"
Understand : I'm doing sh!t-all and I'm enjoying the attention I'm getting.

And every 5 years or so a broke Jones would sell interviews to the tabloids claiming "this bastard Jagger stole my band! He's billionaire and I live in my Mom's basement" >grinning smiley<

I think he would have been a hair dresser,

I think he'd have created several short-lived bands that made an interesting album or two and broke up in acrimony, and continued his fascination with world music. The question would always be "What's he doing now?" And yes, he'd always be a good rent-a-quote and source of instant scandals for the tabloids.

Who the hell knows.
He seemed to be on his way to getting straight.
He had gotten out of the tough world of touring.
Given time and maturity he might have finally found
the lifestyle that worked for him.

Maybe he would be in a band with John Entiwstle on bass, Keith Moon on drums, John Lennon on guitar, Hendrix on lead guitar, Janis Joplin on vocals, Stu on piano...

I think he would have done some stuff with Alexis Korner and his band, maybe some things with John Mayall, some more world music recordings with Jojouka and some Indian musicians, maybe some studio sideman sessions form friends like Hendrix, Lennon, Harrison, Dave Mason....but ultimately I think he still would have faded out in the end...too many problems
