Dirty Work

Quickly looking at the setlists from previous years, I notice that only One Hit To The Body and Harlem Shuffle have been performed live on the Steel Wheels / Urban Jungle tours. Has anything else from DW been played? Perhaps at a club show?

No

Although Keith played "Too Rude" on the Winos tour.

8 songs from dirtywork have never been played live.

i can see why cos the album is crap and is easily the worst the stones have ever made.

I think the title track and Sleep Tonight would be awesome live..

I agree. Sleep Tonight fits in perfectly with Keith's balladier mode. It's as good as or better than Slipping Away. And the title track is one of their most overlooked rockers as far as I'm concerned.

What about Had It With You? I can see them perform that one in a club. Just the Stones and Darryl, Mick on harp: could be cool.

FYI -

For those in Europe and the rest of the world.

SLEEP TONIGHT was performed live...but not by the full Stones.

Keith Richards performed SLEEP TONIGHT on the NBC show in America "Friday Night Videos" all by himself on Piano...Paul Shaffer was host.

I have it on a VHS tape somewhere.

Or just Stones without Darryl. Believe it or not but there is NO bass in the recording.

I know, it's got my vote. Can't see them playing any song without Darryl though.

I always thought "Fight" would be great on the B-stage.

I always liked 'Fight,' except for the signature DW way-too-loud-and-obnoxious drums. If the drums were mixed down, and the vocal actually mixed down a bit, the song would fit in well with 'Respectable,' 'Where The Boys Are,' 'Lies,' etc... and would indeed be great live!

>> Had It With You <<

i freakin love that number but the night they play it as an opener or encore,
we're in trouble

Dirty Work is a great album, although no classic. Totally underrated. This is the Stones at their rawest! And that's just the reason that they didn't play most songs live - because they're too raw for those Greatest Hits tour concepts.

"Keith Richards performed SLEEP TONIGHT on the NBC show in America "Friday Night Videos""

I wouldn't mind seeing that. Is it any good?

i have the raw footage from the taping of that show, and it's fascinating.
Sleep Tonight is more of a jam than a polished performance, but ... yeah, it's good

Would my Stones musical life have been worse or without Dirty Work ? No. I just skipp it. There is no rolling stone music in there. Just my humble opinion. Though I could recognize that this album is way better than Undercover. "Thru The Past Darkly".

undercover is by far a better album than dirtywork.

wonder what brian would have thought of dirtywork had he stayed with us.

not much i think.

..and for some reason Shaffer keeps referring to it as "Sleep". Idiot.

Definitely not the title track or Fight, but Sleep Tonight would be great live.

as i already stated a couple of times, i personally love Dirty Work, and would love to hear not only One hit live, but also Harlem Shuffle, Fight, Too rude - and of course Sleep Tonight!

FYI,
I found out today that most bass drum part of DW was played by Steve Jordan.
High-hat and Snare was Charlie as usual but he couldn't kick at that time.
Steve who was in Paris for another recording was called upon from Cahrlie in person.

Mick doesn't have the voice of 1985/86 anymore, so there is one problem. (Second, you might be disappointed, if they play Fight though). Third, the Dirty Work period was full of struggles between themselves. I don't think, the Stones want to think about that time and these songs. Harlem Shuffle, Too Rude and Sleep Tonight might be exceptions.

personally, I consider that to be a bonus

Paul Shaffer played keyboards and sang back up on Sleep Tonight on Friday Night Videos. Keith played guitar and Marcus Miller was on bass. The empty drum seat was reserved for Woody who was supposed to show but missed the taping according to Bill German. Incidentally, it was the NBC announcer and not Paul Shaffer who kept calling the song Sleep.
