Don't have much time to add something interesting, but Neighbors is the PERFECT r'n'r guitar solo. Pure state of art.

Okay then,,,,,
When Mick Taylor was doing his thing,1969-74,Ronnie wasn't just sleeping somewhere he was in the Stones rival raunch and roll band, doing the samething that Taylor was doing, except Ronnie was writing some of the best music of all time.
Ronnie could take a Rod Stewart melody line to the sky,the same way Taylor did with Mick, also for you Ronnie haters,I'm a guitar player and I tell you,Ronnie is
kicking Mick Taylors A*& on alot of the live renditions of Taylors studio work....
PS ,Like I said I love Mick Taylor also,,but Ronnie Rocks!!

He never had the vibrato and thats what the stones once had when they could really say musically they were the best live rock band.

I don't think Mick and Keith sat around thinking about they were better live in 73 on the 75 tour, listening to Brussels after each gig like some of you dream they did, they were busy rocking, partying and being the Stones, and having fun with Woodie!!

Ron Wood tried to copy taylor;s triple stops on CYHMK,he tries to copy taylor's slide licks on ADTL and with SWAY he tries to copy the studio version,

Why does not Mr Wood not try and create his own interpertation of the melody.
He would rather play octaves to pass the solo then to play single note solos and
stand behind those notes or play pedal steel or slide to again pass on playing
some extended single note solos.

Even when he played little wing live i think with the Coors he again played a slide solo to get by.

just curious: is there some reason not to start a different thread to compare guitarists,
for those who find that worthwhile? this is the Ronnie Wood Appreciation Thread.

and to prove it: Crazy Mama. if memory serves, Ronnie's not credited as playing on this track,
but as soon as that lovely cantering riff enters, one's ears perk right up: ~*Ronnie!*~
the shape of the riff seems of course very "like Ronnie", but ... what is my question??
oh yeah: what is it *besides* the shape of the riff that makes it so very distinctly Mr Wood?

To my ear and many others he plays Taylors parts like Taylor or like himself or a combination of the two..depends on what the song is..please don't get me in a Woodie versus Taylor thing,,this a thread for Ronnie and I them both..
PS,as for All Down The Line he was all over the place on that song in the 70s,adding his own licks,it wasn't til the Licks tour he started playing it note for note like Taylor,Also Ronnie is a bigger Mick Taylor fan more than all you Woodie haters...

Curtis Curtis - I like Ronnie, i don't hate him. IMO his best work was with the
Faces, there are a few Stones songs with him that I like alot also, Beast of Burden, Almost Hear You sign..

But to say Ronnie sounds as good as Taylor on tunes like: Shine a Light,
All down the line, Sway CYHMK... sorry, not quite...

I THINK RONNIE FITS THE WHOLE ROLLING STONES ENSEMBLE, HE HAS THE CAPACITY TO LIFT HIMSELF EVER HIGHER, AND THE OCCASIONS WHEN HE DOES, PARTICULARLY THIS TOUR, WHERE I FEEL HE HAS SURPASSED HIMSELF, so as much as I appreciate MT, and love the stones of that period I still love the RS that are so alive and kicking today!

Found the caps lock key eventually - great! I think Ronnie is just as great as all other Stones members including Bill, Brian and Mick T. And during the last part of this tour Ronnie has been the master indeed! Not so much fooling around, mostly working with the guitar licks. I love it!

Love 'em all.

I think many on here who mention vibrato don't even know what it is. Check out B. B. King's. Hard to beat. Clapton's isn't bad either.

Count me into the Club!!

And despite I was some kind of laughed at for saying it, I'll repeat that the solo on Shattered is one of the greatest of the Stones discography.

Everybody sing with me: I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was youngah!!

i didn't even have to tell 'em to learn it and sing along - they couldn't help it. :E

I dont feel this way. I rate Woods much higher than Taylor, much more subtle. more musical and less showing-off, although you wont get the "signature lead", thank God. Among my very favourite guitar parts of all time: Beast of Burden and Miss You. Hyper cool solo: ...start me up and Miss you on Flashpoint, among the very few things I'd keep from this album. You got me rocking, studio, the end. In fact, lots and lots.

Which bass it is? I thought you'd remember...you were there.
Hehe, I don't know where the picture is taken, might be a different concert, but it's the back side of a bootleg from the Fillmore show. Did Rod kick a football at that show?

Oton - Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but your comments make no since to me?? Ron Wood less showing-off than Taylor??

thru the 80's & 90's that's all Ron did was show-off, being a clown on stage
rarely focusing on his guitar playing, recently, thank god he found his guitar again and from the sound of things, everyone loves the "new" Ron.

All Taylor did and does is stand there and PLAY!!!

Beely - I also saw the Faces in the early 70's, very good barroom & feel good music from R. Stewart & the boys, Rod handing out free beers to the crowd, Ron
running all over the stage and having fun. Love alot of those old Faces tunes!!

Also saw the Stones in 1972 & 1973 - from a music standpoint, best music
coming off a stage I'd ever seen!!!! and I saw Hendrix & Clapton!!!
Stevie Wonder opened for the Stones in 72,his band was a collection of the best
Black musicians around, they were laughing about these British Whites boys who think they can play American Blues, their mouths were shut, per them,
when they heard a certain blond 6ft lead guitarist - M. TAYLOR!!

I'll take their opinion

What would the Stones been like if Woodie joined in 69 like it is rumored? in your opinion since you saw both Guitarist live in that period,,

Re: Ronnie Wood Appreciation Club
Posted by: MCDDTLC ()
Date: November 15, 2006 23:39

Curtis,

Ronnie joined at the right time, 1975!!

In 69 there was like a competition going on as to who had the goods "live"

Hendrix, Claptop, Page with Led Zep, Ritchie Blackmore / D. Purple, Jeff Beck

Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac (who sold more records than the Beatles and the Stones in 1968)

If you didn't have something "special" when you hit the stage, people let you know, I saw many people walk out on groups that didn't cut it live, in those days. I don't think Ronnie would have blown people away like Taylor did on
Ya's Ya's - my opinion - I remember everyone in my circles saying:
The Stones are the BEST group out there now!!! in 1969!!

I have always liked Ronnie's stint with the Faces as my favorite, for him!!

Taylor was perfect for the Stones then, Jagger/Richards knew it, that's why
they grabbed this guy. But six years was all Taylor could handle, for various
reasons, and how knows what would have happened if Ronnie hadn't of come in
when he did. Too bad for the Faces, caused their break-up and I don't think
Stewart & Jagger have spoken since..
