Love Is Strong - Keith's Vocal
Posted by: sweet neo con ()

I just heard LOVE IS STRONG with Keith on main vocals for the first time. Loved it!

Since they don't play this one (Mick version) live very often....I think Keith should take it for himself and play it as one of his 2 concert songs. That's not COMPLETELY UNLIKELY is it?

Very good but the song sounds better with Mick`s vocals. It is perfect masterpiece with Mick singing and very good with Keith singing.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

I'm not saying this specific recording is great.....obviously Keith's just messing around in the studio (it's an out-take documenting the creation of the song). But I think the general feel of it lends itself to Keith as vocalist......in sort of a WICKED AS IT SEEMS / TAKE IT SO HARD way.

I remember in an interview around voodoo lounge keith was saying how he feels that love is strong is 'intimately related' to wicked as it seems.

Yeah, great idea. Just look at Connection - if my memory is right there was Mick on the LP version.

I think they are making a mistake making Connection a part of the Keith set. They shouldn't do the same with Love Is Strong.

I don't think so. The Winos Tour in 1988 removed Connection into Keith' tune. I believe there's a 1966 demo with Keith on vocals existing, but it is not known among collector's. I would prefer Connection; a million times Happy or BTMMR is enough ;-)

the studio version of Connection is a duet - about as closely-knit as a duet can be.
Keith wrote it, though, and he sure sounds fine singing it!
with the Winos and with the Stones.

and wetland, if you ask over in the Hot Stuff forum: [www.iorr.org]
i'm sure someone will post the Keith LV Love Is Strong for you

Keith wrote Love Is Strong as well I think. So that's not the problem. He probably wrote all the maybe seven (!) VL tracks that exist on bootleg with his lead vocals (Sparks Will Fly etc.)

yes, i am cognizant that Keith wrote them.
i was mainly addressing the question of who sings Connection on BtB,
and threw in a little more about what makes it a "Keith number".
(the MJ/KR tunes Keith played with the Winos were all his own work.)

i reckon maybe Keith turned Love Is Strong over to the Mick to sing
mainly because Keith had already done the singing on Wicked As It Seems on Main Offender.

I'm probably going to get rolled and shamed for typing this...

I prefer Mick's singing to Keith's on any song.
I even prefer Mick's voice on You Got the Silver.

i think they do an excellent job of sorting out who's going to sing which numbers,
and/or of making the numbers they settle on really thoroughly theirs - probably both.

as for not getting into Keith's singing ... hm, of course i'm aware that there are people
who somehow don't hear what he's doing, and i am sorry for them, but i think of it as a sort of Tribal Thing,
something like understanding a dialect. when you get it, it sounds just like ... ahhh, home at last!

Why, if someone PREFERS Micks' singing, do people automatically assume that they're 'not getting' what Keep is doing?

i was remarking on a general phenomenon, jamesfdouglas, not referring to you/your remark in particular.
it's just something people do on message boards ... but i was on my way to make popcorn.

I love Keith's version of LIS. Not only his vox which is a lot looser lyrically. but in his version the mix is different. the Bass is up and pumps the driving rhythm. On Jagger's version they emphasize the stops and pulls. On Keith's versiopn it just trucks on.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Hmm, to to get technical, but a duet has exchanging lead vocals between two voices. Memory Motel would be considered more of a duet in the true sense.

But as for Connection, Mick sings "I just can't make no" alone. However, when they sing together, Keith holds the main melody line while Mick carries the upper 3rd (in other words, Mick is harmonizing to Keith).
