All reggae purchases and acquries is once born
out off the insight that Keef loves reggae at 62 years of age.
I left that genre behind me at 22 or slt, but I just
got the Big love of my youth back...

Cracking thread!

With baboon here. Re-found my love for early reggae/ska/rocksteady. Also now spend far too long digging out early boogie woogie and rock n roll (before 1956 etc).

Bought Gram Parson but struggle with it at the mo.

Also Hank Williams but he one of the greats.

Oh, and I just received 5 by 5 Ep picture sleeve by the Stones in mint for 99p (ebay)! Kinda makes your day......

Come on, Rockman. I will really appreciate it if you can put together a list of "10 non-Stones records you cherish which purchase were inspired by the Rolling Stones". I know there is a lot more to it, and for some of us "Everything is". Still, with some discipline and the pleasure of "keeping the torch", please, make a list.

Kind regards,

Lists are like setlist analysis..... to be avoided. I'd prefer to know the records and why.

It's All Over Now - The Valentinos
Damn hard one to find back on 45 in the 60/70's....only surfaced on CD around 1994

I'm a King Bee - Slim Harpo...
Those Excello albums were easy to find

Oh Baby (We Got A Good Thing Going) - Barbara Lynn...
Barbara's material is all available on CD now days but
back then this was a real dog to find. Eventually picked
it upon some R&B Various artists collection...Great record

Confessin' The Blues - Charles Brown
Chuck's and Lil Walters version were EEEEasy to find
but the original was a hard one....Eventually released on CD only a couple of years ago

Gone Dead Train - King Solomon Hill
RARE 78...from the early 1930's...eventually turned up in the late 80's on Wolf label

Winsome - Half Pint...
Keith loved it and retitled it Too Rude....That really
threw the blood hounds off the scent...that bitch took some trackin'

All I Want Is My Baby - Bobby Jameson 1964
Keith involved with Andrew Loog in production.
Have searched for years and have only just scored
a mint copy about 2 weeks ago....

Nona Hendryx (Lp -forgotten the title, but late -85, early-86. Keith played on one song. Great!)

Aretha Franklin ( also -86. JJF. Keith...)

Tom Waits (Raindogs - 85. Keith...)

Dirty Strangers ( -88?, Keith and Ron plays along...)

...and so on...I love the eighties stuff, when Keith spiced things up a bit - both here and there. He played well and raw. I even bought that Hendryx-girl, just for one song!!!

Cheers!

Peter Tosh - Bush Doctor

Rain Dogs - Tom Waits

The great Sleepless by Peter Wolf

Lord of the Highway - Joe Ely

Max Romeo - Holding Out My Love To You (I think that's what got Pewee Herman in trouble!)

Greatest Hits - Hank Willimas Sr.

Greatest Hits - Jimmy Reed

Live (1975) - Bob Marley& The Wailers

Fire on the Bayou - Neville Brothres

I'm hesitant to list m chersihed Muddy Water's records because, being from Chicago and musically aware when he was still alive and doing shows, I think I would have found him on my own. That said, Muddy Mississippi Water Live is my favorite...his slide solos and the authentic reaction from the audience (which I witnessed) are the best!

Inspired as in ... the Stones led me to this music, whether the artists themselves were an influence on the stones or vice versa:

All Stones solo albums/John Phillips Pay Pack and Follow
Black Crowes - Amorica
Alvin Youngblood Hart - Motivational Speaker
Chuck Berry - The Great 28
Bo Diddley - pretty much anything
Solomon Burke - Make Do W/ What Ya Got
Jackie Greene - American Myth
Buddy Guy - Damn Right...
