FLIP THE SWITCH (on the BTB DVD)
Date: October 24, 2006 05:42

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1) First, the serious stuff: Keith is an absolute monster on this number. Best diesel-fueled Chuck Norris-image-conjuring testosterone-induced riff of the post-Tattoo You era. (Sorry Gazza, that honour does not go to Dangerous Beauty.)

2) Charlie; is it physically (or psychologically, for that matter) possible to not airdrum when he kicks into gear at the beginning?

3) MICK'S HILARIOUS ATTEMPT AT A ROBOT DANCE AT THE BEGINNING. He makes R2D2 look like Fred Astaire. I want more of this stuff, Mick!

4) MICK'S HILARIOUS VEST. Milano it ain't. It's obvious this was the pre-L'wren era.

5) Ronnie - wait, is he even playing on this one??

you can't catch me!

Flip the Switch is rather disposable IMO.

I like Out of control a lot more. He deos some robot move at the beginign of that one. not really a robot dance like flip the switch.

the last great lick that KR has come up with (to date, anyway). totally agree - he was a monster with this on stage in 97/98....

FTS is the highlight on BtB along with OOC and SOM, and worked great on stage. Likes it better when Mick says "Flip the swich" than that tosser on the record.

Agree OOC and SOM are great Stones songs and I love them live.

My 18 years old son digs OOC.

I always thought that the one from the official DVD is kind of a let-down. Especially compared to OOC.

Keith does lay down some great solos in Flip the Switch in that DVD...I'd like this song a lot more if it weren't for the less than average lyrics.

Out of Control blows any song from that album or ABB or VL out of the water.

For me, Flip The Switch is one of the very few Stones numbers, which I like more in the studio-version as played live on stage.

Great song and riff. Wish they'd play this more often, would be a welcome replacement for the over played You Got Me Rocking.

The version of FTS from Bremen is particularly tasty.

It's good.It was great in Foxborough,I have some great live versions (can't recall which are the best off of the top of my head, and the No Security version is solid but,it's time for Too Tight on the b-stage instead of Get Off Of My Cloud.

Like it. I dont like that tour but that one works, Keiths is on fire and Micks dance in the beginning is hilarious. A bit like in the 70s. He tries to be hip and modern his way and its cool.

Boring IMO.

that lick is a retread and pattern - keith's bag of tricks taking the same slide
patterns and using them from open tuning to open tuning once he finds the small
open chords.

But here he used it on standard tuning, and he got a different ring to it. Still, the song isn't much to speak of IMO. The only deceant rocker on B2B is LowDown IMO. BTW, How Can I Stop is of Exile-quality.

They have made lots of Exile-quality songs since the actual album was made. They never made an album as good as Exile since then even though some come close.

Let me go of the 90s. Same melody at the beginning. Well not really but close.

Best songs on B2B are Low Down and How Can I Stop if you ask me... both are really good. Out of control is very good live, but i don't think the studio version is that good at all.

Boring thowaway track, like Sad Sad Sad. Even worse live.
SoM & OoC are WAY, WAAAAAAY better, and OoC was the first song in decades to sound better live. The only one to do this since was Don't Stop (not that DS is a very good song either.

Swith me up
Bee bee amah reedy doo guh...

Live - out of key, Mick's nose-holding singing, and talking shortcuts in range and energy.
