OT- Genesis Tour 2007
Posted by: ROLLINGSTONE ()
Date: October 22, 2006 01:01

There was something mentioned on British TV tonight about Genesis reforming for a World Tour next year. Did anyone pick up on this? Apparently there's going to be some 'official' announcement on November 7th. Not that I'm a big fan but presumably it's not a reformation including Peter Gabriel or even Steve Hackett. That might interest me more.

OMG if this is true, seeing the Stones, Aerosmith, and Genesis in one year?

If I hear this announcement, I will probably faint.

When Peter Gabriel left Genesis they were dead. Same goes to Steve Hackett as he has his own unique style to play guitar which seemed only fit for Genesis?

I saw The Lamb twice in 1975 but I couldn't imagine to go again.

The plan had been for Gabriel and Hackett to be involved, but I guess they couldn't agree on logistics. The only way I can think of that they could have done it would be to have the setlist run in reverse chronological order. Have Collins, Rutherford and Banks open the show with all the 1980s hits, then have Hackett join them for the late 70s material, then, in the final hour, have Gabe make his grand entrance for the early 70s stuff. Lot of ego problems with a show like that. Gabe would have had to deal with the fact that he would be onstage only for the final hour of the show. Collins and the boys would have had to deal with the fact that they would be, in effect, their own opening act! Easy to see why that didn't work out.

I read about this online. Peter Gabriel has said he's not doing it for now, but hasnt ruled it out completely, which is strange. Maybe he wants to wait a while and see what starts to happen, ticket demand etc etc, i dunno. They will probably be writing some new material, according to the article i saw.

Not a fan of them, and seeing collins, banks and rutherford, just seems like boring MOR great-grandfather rock.

I think its funny how mike rutherford always does that thing with his guitar, when he strums it and then holds the guitar away from his body all the time.

Also, when I hear some of genesis' and phil collins stuff it just reminds me of the 'american phsyco' movie.

7th of July at Twickenham eh?
so thats Twickenham booked twice, for 2007, already
(Rod Stewart 30th June)

..wonder if Cohl has reserved (just in case) the 3rd remaining date.
(only 3 gigs a year permitted)

same promoter (John Giddings) as the Stones used for this year, I notice

well..at least theyre not playing Wembley Stadium.. with Rod Stewart also playing Twickenham, thats two of the stadium's 3-show quota gone for next year.

There arent any other major stadium acts touring next summer that I know of.

Leaves the way open nicely for a certain other band to open the new Wembley Stadium....

Great band!

Real guitar solos and a complete absence of paid-up barby dolls dancing at the front of their gigs.

Never had any use for these guys.

Maybe they fit someones expanded definition of "rock."

But they were never rock n roll.

They were beyond boring on their last tour in the eArly '90s and THAT was for a decent album. I would consider it if Hackett were in the fold but otherwise I'd only go if they came to my town.

While I agree they've been on a downhill slide since Gabriel left (and that's the only reunion that would truly interest me), the first few post-Gabriel albums were suprisingly good. But it all really went bad after Hackett left and they turned purely pop.

I know Paul was very insistent about Linda being in the band because he didnt want to spend time away from her, but a reunion tour at this point would make his possessiveness look beyond creepy....

ACDC is still rumoured touring next year.
Maybe a farewell tour for the Aussies.
