i always thought matthews was perfect for memory motel; both of those things being unlistenable schmalz.

as for ruining let it bleed, however; now that is a travesty! if only matthews himself were the bleeder . . .

you can't catch me!

One of the few openers I would avoid if they opened for the Stones in my town

Dave does have a home in Seattle where he lives at least part time. He's originally from South Africa, like Blondie Chaplin, and moved from there to Charlottesville, VA where the DMB was formed.

He has a very strong following in Seattle and I'm sure that his being on the bill helped at least more of the $60 and $99 upper level seats. The Stones acknowleged the DMB's drawing power by giving them 70 minutes to play instead of the normal 45 minutes that most of their opening acts get.

True, DMB had a very large strong following in the northwest. His fans are dedicated and came out in full force I'm sure.

I never liked him but yes, the Stones are aware on his popularity and having him open makes good business sense, especially when you want to fill a football stadium in a city you have just played last year...I'm sure Dave put some extra asses in the seats.

Glad I didn't have to sit through his set tho..

why cant they have really good bands as opening acts anymore like J Geils or Thorgood, bands that actually fit to their music and not bands where Stones fans like all of us have to sit through their sets praying to god that they wont do an encore? I would not mind to see Peter Wolf as special guest duetting with Mick (it can be done just listen to Nothing But The Wheel and tell me if this is not totally different from the matthews whining stuff).

Its funny to read all this crap you guys write when over on the dave matthews band board their fans can't believe dave would waste his time on a bunch of washed has beens that haven't been able to play well for about 25 years.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers are opening in Honolulu.
I think there has been a few good opening acts on this tour. For example, Buddy Guy, Pearl Jam, John Mayer Trio (Steve Jordan on drums), Trey Anastasio, Wilco, Toots & The Maytals, Merle Haggard, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Meters, The Charlatans...
And a few good ones on the current leg: Alice Cooper, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Elvis Costello, Ian McLagan & The Bump Band, Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt...

I think that while not categorized as Pop, a lot of the music that our Boys have created since Exile has a "Poppy" feel. I'm not saying it's crap, it's just more "pop" than "R&R".

In the "old days" keith would have hit him over the head with his guitar if he dared ventured on HIS stage.

Of course, it can not go any futher downhill than justin timberfake!!!

Dont like his contribution on MM at all, but I gave this nu fang
a fair chance & (I may get dipped in tar & rolled in feathers
for this butsmiling smiley I like it pretty much. No harm getting some life in that ol' tune,
the title track of LIB is certainly not that albums strongest.

The boys like Dave & they feel good on stage.
Cant imagine what harm it would do.

What Matthews normally use to play, I have no idea of.

yes but only for selected shows if youre unlucky you get shite like DMB or Kayne West unlike J Geils which was on whole tour with them

right right right thats very true, Sheryl Crow is even worser than DM, Shery voice may be nice but ruins all Stones songs in duet just listen to 1994 video Live With Me

Holy shit, I thought people on this board knew good music. I guess I was wrong. Up until the year 2000, I would have argued that Dave was one of the greatest lyricist (sp?) of all-time. I would love to see Dave open for the Stones as opposed to Elvis @#$%& Castillo, or the White Stipes. WTF? DMB made some of the best music around in the 90's and at least they can still fill a stadium. I saw the Stones in Chicago a couple of weeks ago and it was pathetic. The place was only half full. Maybe it had to do w/ the fact that they scheduled an outdoor show, on the water, in Chicago, in October, in the middle of the week, or maybe it had to do with the fact that they are money grubbing sell outs that ask WAY TOO MUCH for their tickets. I love the Stones AND DMB. I can only hope that DMB knows when enough is enough and they call it quits and by the looks of their ticket sells, they will still be packing arenas well after the Stones have FINALLY stopped playing.

Re: Oh No Not Dave Mathews Again!!

most posts in this thread confirm to me that this board contains a bunch of arrogant, negativity driven a~~holes. Im no DMB fan but to be such negative whiners isn't what the Stones are about at all. Now , you can get back to your strange obsession with the moderate ticket sales in some cities.

this are hard words to the very extreme. but on the other hand a little truth comes through when you actually mean that many Stones fans think just shit of every other artist, this of course occurs here very often on this board that other artists are not respected only beloved Stones. but respect for other artists than Stones is one thing, which does not certainly mean that if others are on stage with Stones for duetting it comes out well. A duet has to blend voices in a quite decent way, but DM and Jagger dont blend, even worser of course (thanks somebody reminded me of this) is Sheryl Crow with her hysterical voice sounding absolutely forced when she sings with Stones (like "hey! Im a rocknroll girl, listen!!! - but she is not!!! fatal for her!!!).
