New Barbarians CD redux

I Am Waiting for my copy, still, but was rather impressed that this first Wooden release was # 450 (with a bullet!) on the amazon.com (USA) chart...Hardly representative of any larger trend but better than A Bigger Bang at any time since they came back to the US - that one's always stuck between around # 1,200 & 2,400 whenever I check...

Has anyone the CD in hands ???
Is it the same mono stuff than on the bootleg???
Anyone able to compare and say if it is an improvement, and why ???

This is the same quality as the SP bootleg!!! I must say this is very surprising. I thought Ronnie had the master tapes...

Oh, (can I swear here?) &*@#!!
I mean I like parts of Slide On Live (Pretty Beat Up, Breathe On me, etc & especially the studio bonus cuts), but its a warm, clear, if sometimes too clean recording - but hardly ever play that bonus disc to Live & Eclectic...I hope your wrong!

You cannot really tell from the Amazon samples, can you?

Gave it a second thought - DP, the quality of the samples is bad and it might appear like an audience or soundboard recording, but it is nowhere near how a new CD sounds. So I don't think you can judge from the samples!

It is the same source we've heard on bootlegs.... including the audience recording of Jumping Jack Flash. Sounds somewhat better than the boots that have surfaced so far.

But WTF, it's a nice new direction for the RS-policy...at least RW-policy.

but, don't tell me you can possibly be surprised. RW decides to make a few bucks after 3 decades to pull a show out of "his vault"? Yeah, right. As soon as I heard this was the Largo show, I had no doubt that it was just the "polished up boot."

I was surprised indeed - couldn't believe he would seriously put out a bootleg sourced CD. I ain't gonna buy it...

Not going to buy this. Like my Swingin'Pig better. What a let down!

boots are always more fun that legit releases - still haven't bought the Dylan Live '66, either. The "Guitars Kissing and Contemporary Fix" sound is actually better than Sony's effed up version....

I did buy Dylan's Live 1966 (the bootleg series volume 1) This is excellent.
GREAT sound, whole concert and a very informative booklet (almost a book) and very tasteful artwork. Highly recommended imho!

but the sound ain't as good as the boot - that's the most important part, i think.

What was the first release from Wood Records called? (essential crossexion?). I saw this in the record shop for 26 Euro's. The booklet was only 2 pages, and only one new song (and even that one is only a demo) Very expensive for only one new song (I have most of Ron's work already) And now this. I just don't understand this label's policy.
What about a deluxe version of I've got my own album to do, that kind thing is what we (sorry, I) want.

I've got both versions and I disagree. But sound aside, the official release is worth it just for the book of photos & notes imo.

BTW the attitude that "I'm not going to buy it as I already have it on bootleg" doesn't exactly encourage any opening of the vaults on their part does it?

Well, you don't buy an expensive cognac if your closet is full of moonshine?

Re: New Barbarians CD redux

I've been wanting the boys to officially release anything from the vault for so long, I'm absolutely going to buy it, even though I have the boot. If not, you make Mick's point about NOT releasing anything from the vault as he said it's all on bootleg anyway, what's the point of releasing it?

Re: New Barbarians CD redux

I was slightly joking about that moonshine, I'm gonna buy it too.

well if "it" is merely a repackaging of existing bootleg material/sources - then they should be discouraged. it's only the hardcore element that would be attracted to this stuff and WE'VE ALREADY GOT IT.

Well I'm attracted to it and I don't already have it. I can't be the only one.

That's exactly the point. Why shell out money for something just because it is official now and has a new cover? The bootleggers can use only those sources they have access to, even if it is a cassette copy of a cassette copy of a cassette copy of the master tape. But from the artists themselves I expect a bit more than the laziness to use a bootleg as a source for their releases. If the Stones one day open their vaults and use boots as their sources, they may keep their stuff. I don't need a straight bootleg copy of Leeds 1971 in mono, from the Stones I expect the full show in stereo from their own tapes.
