Hey Wilhelm, I was deliberately trying to be vague so as not to spoil the movie for others. Let me know what I need to edit out and I'll fix it.

Thanks!

I was just afraid someone was going to give away to much of the plot. I wanna see it like a "virgin" smiling smiley

Why? Because Leo turned him into a cuckhold, banging his girlfriend? If anyone seemed obsessed with anality, for instance, it was Jack, making several related comments.

What you were afraid someone would spill the beans and tell you that Mark Wahlberg hangs himself at the end of the movie? Just kidding- That doesn't happen in the movie, but the movie was great so see it as soon as you can.

No, different reasons, but I don't want to list them right now, I would have to get into details, and I don't want to be a spoiler. I'll wait a week until more on here can see the film first.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Just saw this movie tonight. Amazing. The cinema had a HUGE screen, so it was a great experience. Scorcese really is a genius, and there was some fantastic acting from all the lead roles. GREAT GREAT movie!

Interested in reading your reasons, CindyC.....never thought of that, but....hmmm......can see it!

As for Leo - yes, he is losing that babyface and looking quite attractive to me these days. I think he's great - never went thru the putting-down-Leo phase as the 1st thing I ever saw him in was Gilbert Grape, and he was just so spectacular in that I've never held anything else against him.

One actor not mentioned yet, in this fabulous cast is Martin Sheen, very understated, excellent work--good balance to Jack, who is excellent, as stated eariler here.

.....Superfine indeed..........something absolutely kicked in with DiCaprio..........he's never looked this good/mature before.....he was very masculine in this movie......Damon's character had some issues with his GF.....he was having performance anxiety.......understandable given what was going on........Nicholson's peformance is a masterpiece..and I see Oscar in his future..that one scene where he distorts his face to mimic a rat is worth an Oscar in and of itself.....excellent movie

Yeah, there were hints at it, nothing real clear:

1, At the beginning of the movie, a girl leans over at Damon showing her tits and he doesn't seem to care. A minute later, when another guy is watching him, he ogles a passing girl.

2. Walburg's character yells something at him at one point like "oh yeah, I'll show you the codes if you come with me down in the garage." Damon says "that's a lie." Sounds like maybe he was doing something in the garage with a guy??

3. Ballwin's character says something to him about getting married to prove you're not a homo or something.

4. The performance issues

Yeah, these were all some of the things I was talking about (except, I don't remember your point #2, but my memory is weak). I feel as though there might have been another point too, but I will need to see it again.

# 3, was not only Baldwin saying that to him, but the way Damon reacted, saying something about getting a lot of sex, and it being in overdrive, shortly after he has his performance issues. You just know his whole persona is an act, that he'll do whatever he has to do to succeed, even if it is denying who he really is.

Anyway, as I mentioned before, these were all just hints at something, nothing was revealed, which is one of the things I like - because I'm still thinking about the unanswered questions. I do think there is something to all of this though, Scorcese is not the type of director to put a scene in just to fill the time, if it ends up on the screen, there's a reason behind it.

Great movie. We all know it was loosely inspired by Internal Affairs, but set in Boston. Some real life gangsters and police/FBI corruption were also a factor in the the flavor of this movie.

Read the book Black Mass for the true events and the real guy who was inspirational for Jack's performance.

I am not familiar with this book. Is it about Whitey? That was my assumption.

MB - maybe in my next life I'll have a home theatre. I wasn't allowed to build one in my condo.

Yes. It is about Whitey. The very first book; there are a good few now.

Black Mass by Boston Globe reporters Lehr and O'Neil.

Whitey was apparently quite the Chess Master Gangster, while so many others; e.g., Gotti, went to jail, Whitey avoided indictments for 30 years and then escaped.

Yeah, he's a scary dude. There was an interesting article a few years back (perhaps it was an excerpt from a book) about a family who opened up a liquor store in the South End in the 70's or 80's. It was so frightening for them, Whitey's crew kept showing up threatening them, I don't remember how long they were open for business for, a few months maybe, but they sold it because they were in fear for their lives. Typical stuff you see in the movies, but scary when you hear about it from first-hand accounts.

Think his brother knows where he is? There are a lot of supposed sightings of him in Europe.

I believe that while Billy may not know of his whereabouts today, there was a point in time while he was in the State House serving the fine people of the Commonwealth that he knew of his brother's whereabouts.

That's all I'll say on the off chance that Whitey is a member on this board. I wouldn't want to piss him off if he's still alive and kickingsmiling smiley

Ok I have to play dumb here, I didn't know he was in the State House. I only remember when he was heading up Boston University. When was he in the State House?

He was President of the State Senate while representing Southie in the late 80's when I moved up to NE (don't know how long he had been there already). He had that role until the mid 90's or so, as I recall.

Not to be a pedant, but Infernal Affairs, in case anyone's looking for the original. Brilliant movie (both of them)).

Spoiler Alert: . . .

Loved the use of Exile on Main Street for a cop (and a criminal) who about to put each other into exile from their respective subcultures.

How many other than myself had to run to their dictionary to look up pedant? (Actually, I use run losely. I should have used "clicked".)

My mistake. I should have said:

Not to be one who unduly emphasizes minutiae in the presentation or use of knowledge, a formalist, or a precisionist in teaching . . . but . . .

kidding . . . not to be a comedian.

Infernal Affairs is at the top of my NetFlix queue now.....

And I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed Wahlberg's over-the-top scenes....I loved every time he and Sheen were together!

Yeah - they were great! The classic good cop/bad cop. Except they weren't really cops.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
