I saw the much hyped new Martin Scorcese picture today. Great film. Not nearly as good as Goodfellas, which was a masterpiece, but pretty damn good nonetheless. Jack Nicholson was his usual creepy self, and the rest of the cast played their parts well.
The soundtrack includes the Stones "Gimme Shelter" and "Let It Loose" plus the Beach Boys' "Sail on Sailor," which features Blondie Chaplin on vocals. Also "Comfortably Numb" although it's the Van Morrison version from Roger Waters the Wall Live in Berlin 1990 concert.
I saw it. I agree with your review. Great, but not as great as Good Fellas. I thought the actors did a great job, including all the supporting guys, Alec B, Mark W, Martin S.
I don't like to overhype things though. You know how you tell people to go see a movie and it's the funniest thing ever and they are disappointed. When they have no expectations, they are pleasantly surprised rather than potentially disappointed.
when the girlfriend gets the mail, Matt Damon's character is taking a shower. She see's the envelope and notices that it was sent from Leo's character, so she opens it. Inside is a cd that says play immediately. The cd is Exile. She listens to it with headphones and it's recorded conversations between Damon & Nicholson, and she realizes who Damon really is.
Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
She wasn't as hot as Leonardo! He growed up real nice and handsome (insert creepy molestor voice here).
Not looking like a little girly-boy anymore. I was surprised.
Hey, my BF didn't pick up on this, but did you think Matt Damon's character was a repressed homosexual. I thought there were a lot of clues that that was the case. However this was never revealed in the film. One of the things my BF picked up on was how this movie didn't fall into typical cliches, such as happy endings etc. It would have been a cliche surprise to reveal his homosexuality, that's why it even more cool that Scorsese didn't reveal that, instead left us guessing.
I haven't been able to stop thinking of this movie all day.
Did you see the movie? They showed a preview of another Leo flick coming up, Blood Diamond I think? He's all tan and tawny looking, i think it was the best I've ever seen him look. He's my new star crush I think.

I can only envision him as the What's eating Gilbert Grape character. Let's just say he just acted himself.
I didn't notice that the girl had a strap-on. My memory of that scene is that it was shot from the waist up.
The scene with Matt Damon in the movie theater was hysterical though. Another one of those brilliant Scorsese moments that are funny, while at the same time somewhat suspenseful and frightening at the same time.
I saw it on Friday. Fantastic film. Highly recommended. Jack DOES have a strap-on in one scence, but it's not a sex scene - and I won't spoil it for everyone either. See it, love it.

Because films that are just as good have been made. The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Apocalypse Now and Bend It Like Beckham to name but a few.

True BUT not all of those films can be compared to each other. All diferent styles and different reasons they are great.
its just as unfair to campare Scorsese's work now to his work 15 years ago as it is to compare Sticky Fingures to Bigger Bang
saw it last nite... first film in years i had been in a packed theater which applauded at end of film when credits ran...great stuff. jack is the best.
they never showed the girl wearing the strap on... same thing was said by jack in interview with rolling stone but they didn't show it.

Actually, if we talk 15 years, it would be comparing SF to DW (1971 + 15 equals 1986). But I agree it's hard to compare those films. You CAN compare Casino and Goodfellas though. Similar style and it's debatable which is best. I'm leaning towards Goodfellas though. If we were to compare SF to ABB though, I would think it's debatable too. Both are masterpieces in different ways. It all depends on what you prefer.
