Taylor's axe on Brussels Gimme Shelter

Good Lord, his riffs are so fast and fluid, was this a Strat? It's hard to believe he had an LP or an SG moving like liquid fire!

That was a period when the Stone's were a Guitar band. I agree with MickGibsonSG..that cd rocks. Taylor's lead is incredible and Keiths rhythm never sounder harder.

Pobably a Gibson Les Paul. From what I recall he used that a hell of a lot more than the Strat.

Is it from Brussel Affairs. The rendition on Bedspring Symphony is also a must.

well but ... they're talkin about one of the 1973 concert renditions, either literally from Brussels or
the Wembley rendition that's in circulation on some versions of the Brussels bootlegs.

that above is the LP previously owned by Keith, right?
and a 73 shot with a Strat, just to make weight. :E

taylor's fluidity on the fretboard is amazing and his hammers and pulloffs and
sustain is wonderment for the ages.

Not sure about this, but I'm guessing that Mick Taylor only used the Strat when he was playing with Billy Preston or Snowy White that year (hence the picture above). Judging by the sound on the boots and (most) pictures, he used the same Les Paul on the whole Stones set, just like in '72 (excepting Sweet Virginia, of course).

Agree with LieB. It's all the Les Paul.

In '72-'73, it was Taylor on lead, so it is Taylor on the Brussels CDs. (At one of the Wembley shows, Richards played more of a "lead part" at the end, where Taylor usually took an outro solo. This shows up on some Brussels CDs.)

In '69, Richards played the lead on Gimme Shelter during the few times it was played as far as I can tell. The song seems to have been greatly re-worked after '69, including a very different rhythmic pattern from Taylor when he plays rhythm.

I don't understand this view. I thought Gibsons were easier to get to produce the "liquid," "fluid," oozing, dripping, soaring vibrato that pleases so many. Hendrix is the exception. See Slash for a ridiculous version of the sound.

It's an absolute crime that this stuff was never given an official release.
