Lady Jane?

If the Stones are going to play "older songs" why not play Lady Jane. It was great on their first live lp. (Got Live if you want it) I loved seeing them sing the song on the Sullivan show with Brian playing the dulcimer. (Trying to hold the instrument on his lap with his hand wrapped in an ace bandage) They could sing it on the "B" stage on in the middle of the set somewhere. Great ballads like this one get lost and forgotten somehow. From a Stones fan from 1963.

I say they don't play it because it is among thier WORST songs

I HATE LADY JANE

with that said I support your right to love the song smiling smiley

If they play it,don't expect it on the b-stage.They would probably put it in the ballad slot where As Tears Go By was.

They almost had played it early in the 2003 European tour:

030601A 1st & 2nd June: Munich-Pasing, Germany, Tonstudio Eisbach. Tour-rehearsals.
Incl. (both unverified):
- Lady Jane (MJ/KR)
- She Was Hot (MJ/KR)
Note: KR was only present on June 2.

I detest the song. No, maybe its not QUITE that bad, but its never been a favourite. There are more than a dozen soings from that era Id rather hear live.

I'm with Marv. lady Jane is problaby my least-liked song.

I might go as far as to say I hate it, but that's a strong word.

It is tooo sappy for the Stones. Should have been a Beatles song.

I don't think LJ would work well in a stadium setting.

That said, it is one of my favorites. What a killer double "A" sided 45 that was, Mother's Little Helper b/w Lady Jane. In July 1966, WBZ-AM in Boston played the living bejeezus out of that record every hour, it was just a couple weeks after the Stones played their infamous Manning Bowl/Lynn riot show.

Let's face it: only old f*rts like me love the pop band that the Stones used to be, the younger types weren't weaned on that Aftermath era band. Even Mick disses most of the songs from that era. But pop material like LJ, Out of Time or the incredible Back Street Girl harken from a time when the Stones could play some truly beautiful pop music too. I miss that band.

they did a nice version in '75 - a little short, though ;-)

I can't believe anyone would "hate" Lady Jane.

I remember it on the radio in '66...it was perfect then, and even now everytime I hear it Brian's playing on it still slays me.

Is it an age thing? If you don't mind my asking, how old are all of you that have given LJ a thumbs down?

one of the msg gigs - stones were having a little problem with guitars or something between songs and Mick starts into it for part of a version

A classic early stones song. I think it would be great to hear it live. Not sure mick has the balls to attempt it though.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

Very nice song, indeed. 60s Stones at their best.

But I'd rather see I Am Waiting done instead.

This is a great song. The Stones don't always have to be rough, you know.
