Cool, thanks. I am listening to the Tom Petty box set. CD#5 called through the cracks. Currently, Depot Street. I think most of these are demos, done before his first album.

I haven't heard about that one. Can you elaborate?

Re: What are you listening to this very second!

see my post on the Bit Torrent thread on Rocks Off a day or so ago

It's 78 minutes of early mixes that I downloaded as mp3's off soulseek at the weekend.

Most of the 18 ABB songs are featured (apart from LIND, RJ, Infamy, LWTCDI and Rain Fall Down) with some songs (Let me Down slow, we dont wanna go home) appearing up to 3 times. The versions are the same TAKES that appear on the album, but the mixes are different. Sound quality is excellent

I dont have the fine ear for subtle differences that many others have, so to me several of them SOUND pretty similar, although I'm sure there are some differences (SOL to me sounds like the guitars are mixed slightly higher in this version).

The most noticeable thing though is that some songs are longer than the versions released on ABB. 'Biggest Mistake' in particular has been slightly edited at least five times prior to release and Jagger does a bit more 'ad lib' singing towards the end, and the guitar solo in 'Dangerous Beauty' and the fade out are both longer. I'm sure there are others but this is the first time I've listened to it the whole way through.

SHANNON
WORDS AND MUSIC BY HENRY GROSS
@1976 BLENDINGWELL, ASCAP

ANOTHER DAY IS AT END
MAMA SAYS SHE'S TIRED AGAIN
NO ONE CAN EVEN BEGIN TO TELL HER

I HARDLY KNOW WHAT TO SAY
BUT MAYBE IT'S BETTER THAT WAY
IF PAPA WERE HERE I'M SURE HE'D TELL HER

SHANNON IS GONE I HOPE SHE'S DRIFTING OUT TO SEA
SHE ALWAYS LOVED TO SWIM AWAY
MAYBE SHE'LL FIND AN ISLAND WITH A SHADY TREE
JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

MAMA TRIES HARD TO PRETEND THINGS WILL GET
BETTER AGAIN
SOMEHOW SHE'S KEEPING IT ALL INSIDE HER

BUT FINALLY THE TEARS FILL OUR EYES
AND I KNOW THAT SOMEWHERE TONIGHT
SHE KNOWS HOW MUCH WE REALLY MISS HER

SHANNON IS GONE I HOPE SHE'S DRIFTING OUT TO SEA
SHE ALWAYS LOVED TO SWIM AWAY
MAYBE SHE'LL FIND AN ISLAND WITH A SHADY TREE
JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

(Lobo)

I remember to this day
The bright red Georgia clay
And how it stuck to the tires
After the summer rain
Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named boo
Travellin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man

I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the morning we got caught
Robbing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again

I'll never forget the day
We motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old car's buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

wmiller...yes thats the one, and I never get tired of it.

I have the 2 cds and I got one uploaded, and then when I went to
upload the second one, my computer decided all of a sudden, it couldn't
recognize the disk. Nothing wrong with the disk, so its a setting that
got changed in the computer...darn it.

The Olsen/Mick Taylor version of Sway was an almost daily play of mine for some time (though I have been neglecting it as of late). I think that this has gainded similar stature for me for the foreseeable future.
