Also - "Primal Solos", released in 1969. It's a compilation of live stuff, some with Clapton, some with Taylor. So 5 albums in total.

I'm really getting into these albums at the moment. Diary Of A Band is brilliant - Taylor's guitar playing is great. You can see how it developed throughout Crusade. At the start he sounds pretty generic, like Clapton almost. Later in the album you start to hear the MT magic. Please Don't Tell off Crusade is brilliant - lot's of energy in the solo. By the time we get to Diary he is more experimental, almost Hendrix like.

There are a few boots of the pre-Stones Bluesbreakers with Taylor. They are rare and certainly worth a listen. But for my money, the '82-'84 reunion boots are real gems. As I understand it, in '82 the Bluesbreakers were booked for an Australian tour and scheduled some warm-up gigs at the Roxy in LA. When the owner of some clubs in the Bay area heard about he booked the band into Berkeley, SF and Palo Alto. So, the debute of the Reunion Tour was in the Bay area, then moved to LA. There are recordings of those shows and they are wonderful. Taylor's playing sounds happy. It is, arguably, the best playing of his career. The Bluesbreakers toured through Spring of '84. At one of the Roxy shows Dylan approached Taylor and that led to the '83 Dylan sessions and '84 Summer tour.

or at least among the best. mayall was clearly impressed, as evidenced from the comments he makes during the shows. i caught mayall/taylor (with albert king OPENING, no less - that, in and of itself, was a head-scratcher) at the Stone in SF on the '84 version...MT was not nearly in the same groove on that particularly night, unfortunately....

avoid Diary Of A Band... very lame.

Crusade - 4/5 (Snowy Wood!)
Bare Wires - 4/5 (whatever suits you, a weak Mayall album but good Taylor work)
Blues From Laurel Canyon - MASTERPIECE
