Bootleg Rock and Roll Circus
Posted by: aplata ()

I am a huge Brian Jones fan. I have heard people say that on the most recent DVD release of Rock and Roll Circus Jone's guitar parts have been edited with another guitar part. Most noticable on "You can't always get what you want". I would have to agree with that but, I can definately hear him on "No Expectations". Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has the bootleg I would love to lay my suspicions to rest.

Also, it seems some other great bands played at the Circus. Does anyone happen to have this material on Audio?

That looks weird as hell. If Cream and Buffalo Springfield played or rehearsed for R'n'R Circus, it would have been mentioned in several books at least. Or?

Anyway, I'm also interested in hearing a good version with Brian's guitar in authentic shape.

That bootleg is a mishmash of material and not ALL from the Circus. Cream, Buff Sp., and Led Zep (who was invited!!) weren't there.

I believe i read somewhere that zeppelin tried to get on the rock and roll circus but the stones said no.

For many years before the official release, I've had a b/w video which has an alternate mix on the stones songs plus some additional performances by other artists ie fire eaters etc.. the Lion.

Way back then, an additional acoustic guitar can be heard on YCAGWYW, but never Brian. Brian can only be heard on No Expectations.

I also have an old 45 boot with some rehearsals of some songs.

If you watch the STONES ANTHOLOGY 25 x 5 which came out around the 1989 American Tour (Rock and Roll Circus had not been released yet on Video or Laser Disc) you will notice a snippet of Jagger dressed in his red/black circus ring leader outfit standing next to a Tiger (before they launch into an edited version of YCAGWYW). To the best of my knowledge that short bit is not in the R'n'R Circus DVD that's out now on so it must be from the Original Version that would have been a video boot way back (when we all thought we'd NEVER see R'n'R Circus as a proper release).

There's a bunch of video outtakes of the event. Saw a different verion of YCAGWYW on Dutch tv this year. Never seen before. Jagger & Richards talking before the song starts (it's not the cd outtake from the eighties). Wrote the station a mail. They said the got the footage from a private collector from Holland. This guy got lotst of rare stuff at home (mostly Beatles). He's not known in our little IORR world. He has a hell of a source to be able to collect all the stuff he's got. Television station wasn't keen on sharing the footage. Anybody taped it by chance? It was a show called top top2000.

I have the black and white version...it has much better audio (as Brian isnt mixed out), but some of the versions are different to the released DVD. Only on tape, so cant digitize it.

The guy from Voorburg, who told he had Bill over for a few days going through his stuff, letting him sleep on a stretcher in a room packed with rock memorabilia, piles, boxes, etc.?

Yes you can! Put the video in the recorder, connect a good dv camera and record from video to the dv camera. Then connect the dv camera to your pc and burn it. I'll do it for you relic (together with the acetates that you have on the shelves)!

There are a couple of songs the Stones recorded that didn't come up with either release (VHS/DVD). Root 66 is one. Anyone ever saw that?

They played (rehearsed) those songs, but did not record them.

The version I have was traded maybe 15 years ago on VHS (b/w only) but was allegedly a fully finished one hour version edited for TV showing.
3 xStones songs only YCAGWYW, SFTD and Salt of the Earth (YCAGWYW is'guitar overdub' version as above). Some different links etc. Quality is maybe 7-8.
At the time it was considered a real 'find'....

I think that's tucked away on the official dvd as an easter egg. There are a couple of others on there as well if I recall correctly.

Thanks Glam, I'll have to check that out. I know i had the Video and Laser Disc and it was M.I.A. but DVD's are different with all the extra's you can get. Wish they'd put out that 25 x 5 ANTHOLOGY (updated of course). I thought it was pretty damn good, right up there with the Beatles version.....

Hi Greg and Potted,

Have you guys worked something out? I would love to get in on that black and white video with Brian's part not edited out. I am willing to pay but within reason I am not a rich man by any means. Where you guys able to get it to AVI from video?

I watched and listened to the most recent DVD release again today on my PC this time with headphones. Clearly Jone's work was edited out on you YCAGWYW which to me is a total disgrace to a legend. A legend who still this day never receives the credit he deserved. Its hard to say if they cut him out of the other tracks, Brian looks like he wasn't feelin it overall. Jagger does look a little paranoid at the beginning looking over at Jones thats for sure.

Do the Stones hate him so much that they would edit his parts out still to this day? It seems that way to me. @#$%& Mick and Keith wake the @#$%& up. The man was a genius. He might not have been a guitar Virtuoso like Mick Taylor but, the man had soul. Just listen to that beautiful slide guitar on No Expectations. Its enough to make you want to cry. Another thing look at all the greats that respected the man. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Donovan, John Lennon, etc. I don't think it was just by chance for christs sake. I am not directing this at anyone in the forum I am just pissed at the lack of respect Jones gets.

I am looking for anything with Brian in it. It can be Audio or Video.

I love you Brian I never knew you but I thank god in heaven for the legacy that you left behind. I hope those bastards burn in hell for stealing your tapes from your home. I wonder if Jimmy Miller ever received anything from Brian? I guess thats wishful thinking because he's dead and gone.
