Do I prefer Wembley Arena to Wembley or Twickenham ? Do I prefer Stade de France to Bercy ? Do I prefer Baudoin Stadium to Forest National ? For music :
Arenas, probably. For ambiance, mood, magic going around, for the most to share this group : stadiums. Thus, 30 stadiums will be fine with me. Let 1.5 million or so listen instead of .5 million even if in terms of money they make much, much more on the second.

I don't think so. I remember 1998 seing 5 sold out shows in Amsterdam while Holland was playing at the same time at the World Cup in France...

the tickets went on sale in '97 before the draw was announced. Think they sold 250,000 in about 3 hours

different era now, though - costlier tickets, over-familiarity and a lot of people who (it seems) dont want to see shows in that venue

I think my top 3 would please many fans. But could it happen (apart from 3)?

My predictions :
Germany 4 cities : Hamburg – Munich – Berlin – Cologne or Dortmund
France 2 cities : Paris – Bordeaux or Marseille
Netherlands 2 shows : Rotterdam
Belgium 1 city : Brussels
Spain 3 cities : Madrid – Barcelona – Valladolid
UK 3 cities : London (Wembley) – Manchester – Dublin
Portugal, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Greece and Switzerland will probably have their show too
My guess is that Italy and Austria may not Stones shows next year

I was there too. Yes, the 1 show officially sold out within 2 days and there were only 12,000 tickets left but the time they cancelled both shows.
BUT : July 28 was probably the worst date for a concert in Paris.
No one is in Paris (except tourists) between July 14 and Aug. 15
A lot of people had to get refund because they were on vacation on July 28, which, by the way was the day when a lot of people hit the road to drive south.

I was there, and I was pretty much surprised by the figures I found in the press. My guess was a 75,000 attendance. Not more, but again, a good figure considering the date.

First of all: they will not be able to (nearly) sell out more than ca. 20 stadium/ big outdoor shows. So if they are 40 shows, at least half of them would be probably in 6.000-15.000 size arenas.

Talking about Germany (NL):

Hamburg makes sense. Berlin will sure not happen as the stadium was by far not sold out this year. The same for Munich. I don't know if Cologne was a sell out, but it's unlikely too that they'll come back after a year.

Another town in Nordrhein-Westfalen, especially in the Ruhr area makes more sense (because there live 9 Mio. people), maybe Dortmund.

I heard talking about Karlsruhe (small stadium, 50 km from Stuttgart) and Feyenoord Stadium Rotterdam as well as arenas in Amsterdam and Arnhem. It think this makes really sense.

I would not be surprised about Dresden. The region is the only agglomeration area in Germany with more than 1 Mio. inhabitents within a distance of 60 km around the centre that has never been visited. And the only German 500.000(+) town where they never been until now - a pretty lucrative market IMO. Also people around Dresden have averaged more money in their pocket than those around Leipzig, which is another interesting fact in these expensive times.

Now that ticket sales in 110 km far away Leipzig are getting worse and worse each time and now that there's the right infrastructure available finally (2x Robbie Williams in July 06 at the Festwiese Ostragehege; 150.000 tix sold) at least I HOPE so, as it's my town.

My predictions (or hopes) for Germany:

- Karlsruhe (small stadium) and/or - Frankfurt (stadium, as planned for 06)
- Ruhr area (Dortmund, Essen; hall concert)
- Hamburg (hall or the rather small stadium)
- Dresden (big field show, although a hall show is more welcome).

Maybe some more arenas too (selling out 10.000 places is no problem in Germany whereever they are announced).

Dublin's had their chance and blew it - it's Belfast's turn. Keith told me in an AOL interview in 1998 he wanted to play here. So lets do it!

Lets have the Stones at Windsor Park in 2007!

the best blues band playing at the home of the 'blues'!

Everybody stayin' at Chez Gazza - bring your own bottle and a spare bird.

ChelseaDrugstore asks: "Don't you think that this last tour can not really be used as barometer, because it was World Cup year in Germany?"

ChelseaDrugstore, World Cup is always a serious suspending factor in Europe. First of all, where WC takes place: Italy 1990, France 1998, Germany 2006. Also, in a way this is a suspending factor in neighbouring countries, if their national teams are going in for WC: Spain 1998, Holland 2006.

So, in 1990 the Stones cancelled one out four italian gigs due to slow ticket sales. In 1998 the situation was probably very difficult in France: they canceled three out four (!!) gigs due to slow ticket sales, playing only Stade De France. Once. Also, they calcelled one concert in Spain. Where did they have real problems in 2006? In Germany and Holland. Explainable and not truly alarming: World Cup in relation to ticket prices and to a king of "satiety"- considering the fact that they did incredibly huge number of gigs in Germany and Holland, since 1989. But clearly even in Germnay they had smaler problems than in France 1998.

In a way, i think this last tour can really be used as barometer: If the Stones can attract in Europe one million people on a "shattered" tour, with these prices, just 3 years after a "regular", big european tour, then let's guess what they could do next summer with A BIT lower prices. If...

My guess .... next year will be the last time they play Europe. If they're doing 40 dates, they'll play smaller places too in their key markets. Or not. Because this is all wishful thinking on my part.

What do you think of the chances of them returning to Slane to headline the festival there in August? That's certainly one way to get past all the cocked up issues that Dublin seems to have anytime the Stones or U2 want to play there.

Later this month I'm gonna move to Kiel, a 250,000 people-town near the Danish border.
Hope they'll play the restaurated Ostseehalle (capacity 15,000) like in 1976.
Hamburg's AOL Arena (capacity 40,000) wouldn't be that bad either.

I think they'll repeat the 2002-2003-concept. Because they loved it. Few towns, but three shows in every place. That way they won't have to travel that much. And it's the travelling - not being able to see and get to know the places they visit - that tire them out.
And I've heard that ticket sales begin in December.
And Hawaii is on! Ticket sales any day now. Thanksgiving. They'll stay there for two weeks, apparently.

Dont see any reason why not - although personally I hope they dont because, whilst its a beautiful venue it really is in the @#$%& of nowhere. However the issue this year was with the promoters, not getting a license or anything like that. So, theyd have to get around THAT issue again if they wanted to do it.

I know I've already posted this news elsewhere, but I have been told by my brother-in-law, who has a lot of contacts within the commercial organisation at Ashton Gate, Bristol, that the Stones' management have definitely been talking about playing there next year. This is the same guy who knew, months before it was announced, that The Who were going to play there and got me VIP fos tickets for the show, so I'm taking his word for it. He's going to try and get a date and as soon as he does I'll post it here.
Anybody know if they played there in 1982 as he mentioned something about a 25 years anniversary ?

Aberdeen - Capitol Theatre
Glasgow - Apollo Theatre
Edinburgh - Playhouse
London - 100 Club
Newcastle - St James Park
London - Wembley Stadium (x2)
Bristol - Ashton Gate
Leeds - Roundhay Park

> Maybe they'll do a repeat of 25 years ago ?

That would be OK with me!
