At Twickenham yesterday a cover version of Apache was repeatedly played over the tannoy?

Can anyone help me by telling me who this was by?

the.gods.they.made, they played Spanky Wilson's version of Sunshine Of Your Love a few times - quite a departure from the original because it is very 60s soul but it maybe the song you are thinking of?

Hello,

That version is by Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band. I read about him in Mojo magazine a few years back and got one of his LPs, Bongo Rock. It's all instrumental and I wouldn't recommend repeated listenings, purely because it can all sound a bit same-y after a while, but some of it is incredibly groovy. So many DJs were sampling it at the end of the 70s that Michael Viner is often considered (as a lot of people are) to be one of the significant figures in the origination of Hip-Hop.

Definitely worth a listen.
