OT: Dylan Dvds

Knowing there are lots of Dylan fans on this message board, I was wondering if anyone can suggest any good Dylan concert dvds. There seems to be lots of documentries out there and I have No Direction Home, but I'd love to check some performances of his on dvd in good quality. I have a boot someone made for me from 84 but the quality kind of sucks. I'd prefer to see something from the 60s or 70s but don't know whats out there.

Thanks in advance.

I bought a bootleg in Barcelona - Hard Rain.
It´s the same performance as the live album, and this is a NBC tv special. But the concert is split in two tracks, first one is 6 songs, and second is 5 songs. And so far, I haven´t had a chance of making a copy of it, which is too bad for a couple of my friends, as they are huge Dylan fans, and had never seen this show, only heard it. The disc just won´t read on the computer. But I guess it can´t be too hard to find it. Check it out, cause this one´s a classic!:-)

So there are no full length shows officially released, like those small tidbits we get on the No Direction Home dvd. Not even a Dylan show comparable to the Stones' Ladies & Gentlemen, that is bootlegged but in near perfect quality.

There are few proffesional filmed Dylan shows.
But many of the audience filmed videos from 81 onwards is much better than most RS aud videos. "Through The Years Vol. 1 & 2" is a great double-sided-DVD with his promos (and some live songs) from 1963-2003. Great for a starter, together with Hard Rain...and Eat The Document.

Hard to Handle, a concert from Australia around 1987 in which Dylan is backed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, has been "readily available" on DVD for quite some time now. It's an official film and has excellent dolby surround sound.

Highly recommended!

That Hard To Handle from 1986 (Feb 24th/25th) is a bit wierd.....because I've read so many bad reviews about that one. I think it's just a-w-e-s-o-m-e, even though the rest of that tour don't do it for me.
The moment in Like A Rolling Stone..."you used to laugh about, everybody that was hanging out", where the camera takes a lift above Dylan and points down to him....that give me such chills every time, it's not common to see Dylan's facial expressions so close, at least not during such a great performance. Some 1975 shots comes close....but he wore a "mask" then.

MTV Unplugged is an excellent DVD of a good portion of sessions he did in front of a live audience back in 1990. I highly recommend it!!

UNPLUGGED is from '94 (and HARD TO HANDLE is '86). DONT LOOK BACK is not a performance film per se but does have some nice concert footage and is a must-see. Also worthwhile: THE CONCERT FOR BANGLA DESH and THE LAST WALTZ.

HARD RAIN deserves an official release.

And there's some great performance footage in MASKED & ANONYMOUS as well (though not in a concert format).

I'm not to keen on MTV Unplugged myself, at least not compared to what it COULD have been...Supper Club 1993.

Love Dylan's preamble to In the Garden on the Hard To Handle video/DVD.
Actually, his preamble to this song is better from 10-17-88 (either Beacon or Radio City gig) regarding the Amnesty Tour. Anyway...
Although they exist, the few I've seen of Renaldo and Clara
are of dubious quality. I would beware of those, but that's from
just the ones I've seen.
Also, though it's not DVD, that youtv (yourtv, mytv, whatever it's called,
you know what I'm talking about) website has Dylan concert clips
being added hand over fist. Some quite interesting.

Thanks Glam. Those clips are the kind of shows I would love to find but I guess there is no whole show out there. Surprised Dylan hasn't released these performances since he is good about putting out his outtakes and bootlegs.
