I think I'd take Hot Rocks over 40 Licks. Others:

Bob Dylan's Greatest Vol.1
Animals Greatest Hits
Meaty Beaty.. The Who
Neil Young Decade
Eagles Greatest - Biggest selling album in US
Simon and Garfunkels Greatest
Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits
Sam Cooke The Man and His Music

Alot of artists have greatest hits compilations that for some reason I don't think are great, despite the fact there's lots of hits on them and I like the band/artists: Van Halen, KISS Double Platinum, Aerosmith Greatest, Seger's Greatest, Springsteen's Greatest. I'd rather just listen to one of their studio/ live albums instead like KISS Alive, Aerosmith Rocks, etc.

40 Licks suffers from the inclusion of the 4 new songs on disc 2. If anything, they should have been included as a bonus EP.

Hot Rocks is literally the essential Rolling Stones collection, at least for the ABKCO years.

Other good ones:

CCR - Chronicle (big points off for excluding Born on the Bayou)
Billy Joel - Greatest Hits, Vols 1 & 2 (always sold together)

Can't really think of many others that I couldn't improve on. Thank goodness for CD burners.
