As bv says: if you don't like it, go see another band, it's a free world.

Actually I liked it, I was surprised when first heard it but it sounded fresh and I'm fine with it...

So you think I should go to see another band cause I don't like his slapping in that particular song? Jesus...

I don't, I think that would be terrible.

I was just trying out Bjornulf's way of thinking. Anyone who complains about the Stones, all he says is "don't go, it's a free world".

"thinking" is an overly generous way of putting it . . .

Darryl rocks! I think it´s about time he brings himself more into the Rolling Stones - after 13 years playing with them.

I love Bill also, but after playing a song 1000s of times you add a little bit each time,I don't think it's taking from the song.Darryl bass playing is good

Thumping on the bass strings with your thumb, mostly used in funk..you get a thumping G or C,etc,etc.....

No. But maybe he played it in rehearsals and someone in the band said: That´s good! Do it live! I don´t think Keith told him: Hey Darry, why don´t you slap here and there... ;-)

I asked Darryl about it in Munich. He said:"This is when we're going to church." Whatever that meant.

Daryl is a phenomenal basist. He is the only reason Rain Fall Down works at all live. Without that bass breakdown the song would be a wiskey-sour run for me.

Of all available bassists Jones was the absolute worst choice. Joey Spampinato, Pino Palladino, Blondie Chapling, Jeff Sarli, Danny Saber, Doug Wimbush -all where far better choices, much more comming from the same ground the Stones were comming from.

Mathijs

Darryll is a great bassplayer, and on a lot of songs from VL (also the outtakes)
it kinda worked (albeit different to Bill's approach). It worked for example in Love Is Strong. But on the whole I have to agree with Mathijs. Joe Spampinato or Doug Wimbish or Gail Ann Dorsey (doubt she would be asked, and If she would be willing do it) would have done miracles on stage.
Don't get me wrong, Daryll is a great guy, and an excellent musician, but a strange choice for the Stones imho.

You are right, Bockwuchsd: when I heard it in Hannover, I thought the same second: oh please can he stop this slapping? No It doesn`t fit. Another thing from that concert what I really didnt like was that he didn`t stop playing in the midpart of Midnight Rambler. With his steady walking-bass the number looses its suspence (you know when Keith plays this blueslicks alone by himself, waiting for the Boston...) and turns it into a shownumber. Its what showbands often do: a walking-bass in the background, and the singer is announcing something. To my ears he should stop this. But before I see all the stones throwing at me: yes Darryl is a great guy and musician, and he is great on these groovy numbers (Rain fall d. etc., but somtimes it doesn`t really fit.
