You didn't catch them in 73 Rockman? You've never told about your first RS concerts....
Very cool interview on that Melbourne TV Special, BTW. A stoned Jagger explains that there were no pot in their luggage. Very rude journalists.

Rockman, that's real cool, about Melbourne! I had no idea about ti, I haven't read about it for sure. Must have been really hot experience, especially the first day.

Rockman Terry you are my hero ma man!
You saw all three Kooyong Shows?!?! Ahh what I'd give.....
Why didn't you sneak in a 'movie camera' and do your duty for the rest of us plebs? hahaha.

You'd be a rich man if you coulda caught those shows on film mate.
Man how I hope they'll surface one day.
Preferably before we're all dead!
:0)

Oh yeah caught your post reply about Mazzy Star. That song just takes you somewhere doesn't it? Rarely does a song capture such a mood and have you feel it from start to end.
Superb stuff.

kyle m

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

If yousee these pictures you know what the Rolling Stones are all about. It's a shame that terhe is no soundboard recording of the Nicaraguan Benefit.

But it seems like the actual show wasn't really that good. excellent songlist, excellent cause, excellent look by whole band. But the boot isn't one of the hotter shows around. And I'm not talking about the sound quality.

The Benefit show is ok, although the band sounds sloppy now and then. But what a setlist!

But personally I think the Honolulu shows are much better. Great vibe.

Rockman, could you please post a link about your posts of Melbourne 1973, as I can't seem to find them?
It's strange that they had onstage-seat (not seatS) back in those days. I can see the lucky guy has a great time at the Melbourne 73 footage ! :-D

Woaw, great Chippy.
Me thinks the VIenna concert from 73 (3rd last picture) is one of the best tour premiers RS have had. Better than 69, 72, 78, 81 for instance.

I agree. The playing wasn't that great that day. The band was pretty sloppy. Would have been nice if they'd done this benefit concert after the '73 Winter tour instead of making it the first gig since July of '72. I'm sure they didn't want to wait another month to do the gig since the cause was pretty urgent. But its' a nice listen. Very unique setlist and the sound quality is pretty good. I prefer the Hawaii shows. Wish they'd kept "No Expectations" and "Stray Cat" in the setlist.

Nope. I think that's from the Nicaraguan Earthquake Benefit but it could be from another gig on that tour. The reason I say this is because of Jagger's hair. It was only that short during the '73 Winter tour. It had grown back out by the time they hit Europe in the Fall of '73. Also, those outfits could be exclusively from that tour. I don't know if I've ever seen pics of them in those outfits on other tours around that time or not, but that doesn't mean they didn't wear them in Europe in '73. I think there was a thread here once about that SG that Keith's playing. As far as I know, he's only known to have used that on stage during the '73 Winter tour.

Another reason I think this pic is from the '73 Nicaraguan Benefit is because there appears to be rose petals on the stage. They're playing "Midnight Rambler" here and normally Jagger wouldn't have thrown the rose petals out until "Street Fighting Man". At the Benefit concert, "Midnight Rambler" was played as an encore, hence the rose petals already being on the stage.

I thought I once saw a pic of Keith with an SG on the '70 European tour and seems like I read one time that he used one on the '71 English tour at times, but I'm not sure and I don't know if it was the white one. I'm thinking maybe he used the (a) white SG in the "Silver Train" promo video but I don't think anybody could recall seeing him with it after that.

I think the way you can tell if a show is from the Nicaraguan show is by Keith. It's the only show he wore that white outfit and played the SG. Also Jagger had just cut his hair. I distinctly remember buying my first magazine after the longhaired 72 tour magazines had all come out. Used to get the German mags in Rome, the only ones with the cool photos.
To me it is very strange how ageless Jagger can look, even back then. That first backstage shot with Terry Southern and the Playboy award from 73, to me could be Jagger in 78, in 83 or even in 71. I look at the clothes, or Keith sometimes when faced with one of those no-tell Jagger shots.

Oh yes, Britney! I can't remember writing my original post there, I was VERY young in July 2006.
