well guns n roses whole history is a band hijacked by axl. him and izzy were in hollywood rose and they merged with l.a. guns then axl sent traci guns and a few others packing and kept the musicians he wanted from la. guns. axl rose and traci guns are were the namesake of the band came from.

Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden.
Tom Petty, John Fogerty, Traveling Wilburys.

There was many great bands/artists in the 80s, and many of them are even better today.

I stopped liking Guns'n Roses after a concert in 1993 at Valle Hovin, Oslo.
1 1/2 hour of 5 or 6 tired, dirty, drugged guys, who must have forgotten they're own songs.
I was only 14 years old, and I was so disappointed! My first rock concert and had been a fan for 2 years (a long time at that age..).
Remember listening to Iron Maiden on my walkman on my way home.

since a few of you like the bands i put albums in for, if you go to a quiet riot show like always they will be doing a meet and great after each show and autographing things for each and every fan in line. the drummer frankie banali will also answer all emailed questions to his fan email address.

i forgot to add Tom Petty and The heartbreakers to my list:-D

so my list basically

Def Leppard
Dire Straits(they made some music in the 80's aswell even tho they began in the 70's)
Van Halen(same thing goes here)
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Bon Jovi
Guns'n'Roses
Traveling Wilburys
Deep Purple( i don't know if you can call them an 80's band but they made some music in the 80's)
Whitesnake
Journey
Europe

this is a few of all the bands that i like and i can say not all of the groups that i like are from the 80's :-D but since this is a thread about 80's bands this is my list.

You know, I've always liked Winger's self-titled album better than In The Heart Of The Young. I must say this is one 80's band that I didn't like that much at the time, thinking them more of a girls band, but as I've gotten older, I've really come to appreciate them. Their songs kick @ss. Great rhythm section, and fabulous riffs.

Love all my 80's bands - Bang Tango!!! I think I was one of 2 or 3 kids in my entire high school who'd ever even heard of them!! LOL

I actually like hair metal more now than then. It was kinda like background music for some really good and wild times. Wish I could remember?!?!

I like the 80's girls' hairstyles (on girls, not guys!). Some of the clothes too (stonewashed jeans, tight designer jeans on chicks, Coca-Cola shirts, etc.). Liked MTV playing music videos.

Didn't dig mullets, parachute pants, the rise of rap, the tough times for the Rolling Stones.

I liked "Quartz" a lot. Mainline riders was one of my favourite songs they wrote.
Their singer is called Mick Taylor:

Dangerous Toys - S/T
Bonham - Disregard of Timekeeping
Great White - Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Whitesnake - Slide It In
Kix - Blow My Fuse
Bulletboys - S/T
Living Colour - Vivid
Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In (always thought the production on OUASA was poor)
Gorky Park - Gorky Park (Kick @ss album!!)
Metallica - Ride The Lightning (I always thought this was their best)
AC/DC - For Those About To Rock, Fly On The Wall - actually all of their 80's efforts except Flick Of The Switch
Tesla - Mechanical Resonance, The Great Radio Controversy
Britny Fox - Boys In Heat
Danger Danger - S/T

Think that about covers the rest of my metal album faves from the 80's

Jane's Addiction and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Worst decade ever for music. Period. I'll take the Partridge Family over Flock Of Seagulls anyday. And that's sad.

Styx,Night Ranger,Reo Speedwagon,Blue Oyster Cult. I grew up listening to that type of music. Fortunately my tastes have improved as I get older.

My favorite 80's band is The X-Pensive Winos. Talk Is Cheap was fantastic and there were some very good songs and guitars on Main Offender. I would go see them in a heart beat if they ever get back together.

Mötley Crüe is my second favorite 80's band. I like all their albums and saw them on the Route Of All Evil Tour with Aerosmith in 2006 and i saw them at Cruefest in 2008. They sounded much more clearer on Cruefest, and you could see them better because there was less smoke. In 2006 i saw Mick Mars make his debut with the song Voodoo Chile, in Buffalo. Nikki Sixx talks about Keith a lot in his book the Heroin Daries. Like Aerosmith was the Rolling Stones of the 1970's i think the Crue was the Rolling Stones of the 1980s.

I like Def Leppord, Poison, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Judas Preist and GNR as well.

The first 4 RATT albums were quite good. I still hear guitarists jam their riffs at guitar stores, etc.

I always loved Mama's Boys. Anyone remember Needle In The Groove? I caught them with Ratt and Bon Jovi way back in 85. Whatta show!

wingers album "pull" and "IV" are great. the band was great musicians and too bad metallica and beavis and butthead knocked on them all the time. the guys in winger are probably better musicians than anyone in metallica

well not everyone i named was an 80's hair band especially when you read that list of albums to get from 1980-1990. aerosmith, pantera, metallica, black crowes, megadeth are 80's hair metal?

and to the guy who said what axl is doing name is a joke or travesty or whatever, guns n roses were popular from '86-'94. thats 8 years and while working on the next album everyone has quit. if axl wrote music for guns n roses and they quit cause he was taking to long why should he call it a different name? the rolling stones have been a popular band for 44 years and they are down to 3 original members, maybe only 2 after this year yet they still call themselves the rolling stones. and wasn't brian the original leader and creative figure when they first started he formed the group i think but what happened when he quit? still called the rolling stones. i love them but it did turn into the keith and mick show with a backing band after jones quit, mick taylor quit and especially bill wyman quiting.

The RS would be The Jagger/Richards Band if they were the only two "original" members left. At what point does the band cease to be "real" when a majority of the band have no connection to its roots beyond being contracted to play on tours? It's certainly a nice business arrangement but some would say a pale imitation of its former self.

G n R were a great band. They might remain G n R in name but to my mind, it is The Axl Rose Experience. Same reasons as above.

Winger's last album I've heard a lot of great things about but haven't gotten around to picking it up. One day I will.

Then there were all the other great 80's albums by non-hair metal acts: Depeche Mode, Midnight Oil, Sinead, U2's Rattle & Hum, REM.......

yeah wingers recent album was great. look what the guys in winger have done. kip winger played with alice cooper and bob dylan before forming winger, drummer rod morgenstein was in dixie dregs and has played in some prog rock bands after winger. guitar player reb beach was a session musician before winger and played in whitesnake and dokken after winger
