The Cars
‘Bye, Bye Love’
recorded track 1978
[youtu.be]

Lyrics
I can't feel this way much longer
Expecting to survive
With all these hidden innuendoes
Just waiting to arrive

It's such a wavy midnight
And you slip into insane
Electric angel rock and roller
I hear what you're playin'

It's an orangy sky
Always it's some other guy
It's just a broken lullaby
Bye bye love
Bye bye love
Bye bye love
Bye bye love

Substitution mass confusion
Clouds inside your head
Involving all my energies
Until you visited

With your eyes of porcelain and of blue
They shock me into sense
You think you're so illustrious
You call yourself intense

It's an orangy sky
Always it's some other guy
It's just a broken lullaby
Bye bye love
Bye goo' bye love
bye bye love
Bye bye love
Substitution mass confusion
Clouds inside your head
Well, foggin' all my energies
Until you visited

With your eyes of porcelain and of blue
They shock me into sense
You think you're so illustrious
You call yourself intense

It's an orangy sky
Always it's some other guy
It's just a broken lullaby

Pogues - Fairytale of New York

"it was christmas eve, babe ... in the drunk tank!"

Shane MacGowan & Popes - Christmas Lullaby

I remember when I lived in England back in '87, and when that Pogues tune was released as a single it was
seemingly on every jukebox in every pub and played pretty much much non-stop throughout the entire Christmas season.
Listening again right now takes me back 30 years...packed in a pub staying warm with the smell of ale and cigarettes.

Here's another pub jukebox staple released around the same time, and although a bit poppy sounding now, it brings back loads of memories.

George Harrison - Got My Mind Set On You

Which reminds me of my favorite track on that album:

George Harrison (ft. Eric Clapton) - Cloud Nine

Fairytale is probably my favorite xmas track, but never heard it back then, not until the mid-90s when a friend turned me onto them ... they had already reformed without Shane by then but I did get to see them live
... and then also saw Shane w/ Popes a few times
... and then Pogues a couple times in NYC when they got together for yearly reunion St. Paddy's Day shows, with Shane!

And nice choice of G Harrison tunes, but being in xmas spirit, I'm moving onto Lennon, Happy Xmas War is Over

But I'm with you, been to London a few times, I love those pubs!

No more cigarettes allowed in pubs which is a good thing...but there was a time years ago when I did enjoy the occasional smoke with a beer in hand.

Tex Williams - Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)

"Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death
Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait
But you just gotta have another cigarette..."
