ALbum of the year > Bobby Womack > The Bravest Man On The Universe...I forget him all about Mick...and I wonder did he really wrote 'Last Time', because he is so modern. Last time Stones were after Exile on Main St.

Beyond The Missouri Sky by Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden.

I am looking forward to buying the Charlie Haden/Hank Jones duet albums.

a very cool compilation...impulse was all over the map stylistically, but somehow this collection works well....

Agreed, Stonestod.

I think Impulse as a jazz label knew what they were doing. Their first ever release was the Genius + Soul = Jazz by Ray Charles, and they, up to 1976, broke down the boundaries of music.

You would have some great acts on Impulse, both John and Alice Coltrane, Charlie Haden, Charles Mingus, keith Jarrett, Shirley Scott, and many more. Creed Taylor certainly knew what to record.

creed's followup label (CTI) was pretty adventurous too...

hey: you ever listened to anything from the Black Jazz label - a short-lived affair in the early seventies? some very cool albums by the likes of Walter Bishop Jr, Doug Carn, Chester Thompson....well worth the free downloads....

Stonestod,

CTI was an amazing label, with an excellent live album by the CTI Allstars from 1971.

CTI had George Benson record for them, before he descended into the smooth quagmire. Deodoto also did some good stuff on CTI, as did Chet Baker. Impulse, though, was absolutely fantastic.

I have never heard anything from Black Jazz, but will research it now.
