We don't have to work and we will spend all day cooking out and drinking beer, so the chances of having a good day are very high. Except for those people who are into fireworks and accidentally blow their fingers off. Myself, I know alcohol and explosives don't mix, so I forgo the explosives.

I must confess that when I wokeup this morning I was slightly depressed because the DREAMTIME thread has been closed, (ohno if you didnt get to see it, please go back and checkout the 2nd to last post. i posted a screenshot of my PC which shows a letter DREAMTIME sent me. you'll get a good laugh.) then I remembered its Independence Day!!! So this glorious day I will do the following:

- blow stuff up with high powered explosives
- have roman candle wars with my friends
- load 400+ bottlerockets into a copper tube and light them with a can of hairspray and a lighter
- turnup my PA to peak volume and play whatever i like
- spontaneously break into a southern accent and say the dumbest redneck jokes I can possibly muster
- i will drink domestic beer (probably rolling rock as its possibly the best american-made beer, and i generally think american beer is pretty 2nd/3rd rate)

Hey Open-g! Looks like that pic was taken on Bourbon St., around the corner from my place in New Orleans. The guy next to the sign-holder is drinking a "hand grenade."

...a "hand grenade" is especiallly appropriate on this one day out of the year when we don't have to feel ashamed for wanting to blow up stuff

Yes, I had an Uncle Stumpy too who had several accidents with explosives and farm machinery, god rest his soul. I'll never forget his last 4th of July in 1992. His final words were, "Hey y'all, check this shit out..."

Just thinking about my 4th of July 31 years ago; the great, sweltering, exhausting Liberty Bowl concert in Memphis.

I was thinking July 4th 1972. Stones In D.C That was a day to remember . I do remember thinking it was a little odd celebrating our Independence from the British with a British band. But what the hell We are brothers now and what a way to celebrate. Steveie Wonder and opening for the Stones. Good music. Crazy crowd. With about 30 thousnad people stoned and enjoing each other.Doesn't get better then that

I'm celebrating the indominable spirit of our pioneering forefathers by watching this on a constant loop all day long.

A few weekends a year swaying drunkenly six inches from an open flame and a big pit of red hot coals is about as far as I want to push my luck. No incidents yet, tho, I'm happy to report. translate that into Canada, and there goes my Canada Day July 1st. Even though the US may not be my favorite country in the world, have a good July 4th, you all deserve it.
