Milan setlist without surprises
Posted by: salar ()

Hi folks,

its hard to believe that we will have a Rolling Stones gig next week....after all this bad news one has to get in the right mood first, before looking forward to the start of the shortened mini european tour 2006.

But what makes me wonder is that many of you guys out there do seriously believe that we will have a massive change in the setlist in Milan.

never ever...after they havent playd together for more than 3 months one thing is for sure.
The setlist will be as conservative as possible...it will be almost identical with the setlist they ended with in New Zealand IMO.
It has always been like that.

Of course they will change the setlist by changing, lets say, maximum 2-3 songs, not been playd on this tour before, when the tour goes on...but the first 2-3 gigs will be quit "normal" whateer this means.

Anyway...on with the show....open the cage..let the tigers out.

You must be getting ALL the setlists complainers up and ready to go for a summer of bitching about how the stones are lazy for playing warhorses. Hopefully people will just be happy to have Kieth recovered and healthy enough to get the job done and to enjoy the shows as they are.

As long as I can hear the riffs of JJF, BS, STD, GS, TD, SMU and YCAGWYW, it's fine with me. Everything in the middle will be a surplus given by god or buddha. I just hope for Dead Flowers and Don't Let Me Down or Laugh I Nearly Die in one of the concerts I will attend. Great to see Mick, Keith and Charlie, but it's hard to figure out as Salar rightly wrote it that it's next week.

i'm a bit outta practice, but i'm still gearing up for the 'set-list whining season,' as Stonestod so aptly termed it. it helps to read Eagles' set lists to get into the mood for it. (though, truth be told, ANY eagles set-list is a bad-setlist IMCO)

I'm rolling up my sleeves with anticipation

very happy indeed and grateful to see the tour getting started - but thats still not a good enough reason to excuse any phoned in performances with no imagination. IMO it doesnt let the "whining over setlist whiners" off the hook ;-)

I'm sure the shows will be good though. I'm looking forward to them

Hard to believe indeed, after all this waiting and bad news. Hannover will be my gig. I'll go with my friend H. I love her.

Getting in the mood already. I will settle for any setlist. Could do with Beast of Burden, some rock and some blues. Wild horses, Let it bleed.

I'd love to see Mick and Keith share the mike like they used to.

Which song will Keith forget first ? And don't go wishing for something different. You guys are getting the same sets we got here in the states.
So stop dreaming. These guys haven't changed a set list in ten years. There going to do it now ? With a one guy having brain surgery and another coming out of rehab ? Just look at the set lists from the state side tour. That is what you are going to get.

One of my favorite Lennon tracks, and the B-Side to "Get Back". What a great 45! IMHO right up there with Hey Jude/Revolution and HTW/YCAGWYW.

Lets all agree to give them a pass for Milan.
But from then on let the complaints rip!

Take a better look at the set lists from the last ten years.I didn't know that they were still playing Route 66 as they did in 1999.

Just don't get your hopes up to much. You know the point I was trying to make so don't be a schmuck about it. You are going to get the same set list as the states got. So pull your head out of your arse and stop living in your fantasy world

Listen friend, post what you mean and you won't have these problems.I am actually from the U.S. and recognize that the set lists,in general, have become too conservative in recent years.I figure that in 2003 they started coasting way too much. However, the set list is not likely to be the same as it was earlier in the tour.Chuck Leavell has stated that a couple of different ABB tracks will be played in Europe.I don't expect more than three tour debuts in Europe but,I don't expect zero either and I'm not a miserable bastard.

Hope to have some surprises, but after all what we saw those last weeks, just great to see them on stage. See you in San Siro!

Yoops...Must be crazy sometimes. You adjusted to "Let me down slow ". Maybe in my mind must have been something to The Stones : Don't let US down after this tour. What is strange is that each time I have been compelled to listen to a Beatles song, I felt it like an aggression towards my liberty. They are outlaws at home....when I am there.

Indeed they should!!

Most people in Europe haven't seen them live at all on this tour so I would expect a set list almost identical to the ones they did in Australia and New Zealand in April. May be with one or two changes.

Yep, I think thats about right. Maybe they'll have rotated a couple of different ABB songs into the show, most notably the new single

SOL will be played. mark my words.

Re: Milan setlist without surprises

I think most Europeans will be disappointed if they get a completely different list of non-warhorses from those played in the States. That would mean they would not hear Sway, As Tears Go By, She's So Cold, Get Off My Cloud, Let's Spend the Night Together, etc.

The Stones don't do 'big surprises'. There's nothing wrong with the set lists they have been using, so why change them?

some of those songs (Sway, ATGB, Worried About You etc) tend to be played when the band are playing somewhere theyve played either earlier in the tour or when theyre playing back to back shows in the same city. When theyre playing one nighters in stadiums, their appearance is less predictable and less likely to happen as there are fewer people who have seen more than one show. And the European tour, with the exception of London, consists entirely of one nighters
