Open letter to the Rolling Stones management
Posted by: Baboon Bro ()
Date: July 2, 2006 11:26

Me and my son, 13 y o, bought tickets for a show
in Göteborg along the ABB Tour.
We bought them seven months in advance.
We all know Keith Richards had an accident,
and due to that and medical advices
the show was postponed until next year.

We did not at all understand why it couldnt be squeezed in
around the Bergen and Horsens dates, but anyway:
We went to Göteborg at June 10, just as scheduled.
Just that we didnt attend any rock concert.
We did that in spite of a lousy private economy,
I wanted to do something amusing with my son,
felt like it was strongly needed.

Next year, we said... Let's save and long for it...

Now we're informed there will be no show in 2007 either.
We have to go go Berlin or England (Twickenham?)
in order to see the Stones. Flight tickets are relatively cheap,
but we have 600 km to the nearest cheap airport.

We hear reports that the Rolling Stones have
excessive plans for a prolonged ABB tour in the US
this fall.

My question: When will you play in Sweden/Finland/Russia?
If not, give me a good explanation!
You grew on this ground, remember (1965, 1966, 1967, 1970 etc)?

Grateful if someone responsible answers this either here or
privately to the email attached to my user name.

Baboon Bro., nice letter/note BUT do you really think they care? I personally have been blown away about how indifferent and numb they seem to be. Horrible way to do business but they really seem to not give a sh*t what so ever - amazing... Good Luck, hope they show you a bit of respect ...MB

They don't have to care, only a good explanation is what Babboon and his son wants

In the end, it IS the Stones; they hired the promotor.

Baboon Bro, this is a really serious letter
which should be brought to the Stones just as well
as the "get well greetings" was brought to Kieth.

Maybe all fans from Europe who bought a tic and
now returns them to get a refund could have a thread here
and get help from BV to hand the posts over to Mick, Keith, Ron
and Charlie, demanding an explanation!

Kind regards Baboon!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

I think the European fan base in general has been treated kinda shabby......

Why is it so hard to understand it is all about the money? Europeans are so smug about being better than the rest of the world, but if you didn't have second rate economies with heavy tax burdens you could pay the market price and get many more shows. It is simply a fact of life in a world economy and extends far beyond entertainment and applies throughout all businesses.

Seems like you're being the smug one, Steven.

Also, I wonder how likely they are to reply to a guy named 'Baboon.' winking smiley

>> you could pay the market price and get many more shows <<

that is a great idea. i don't know what's wrong with us. :E

You don`t get it, do you? The average tic in northern europe is close to 150 dollars, I don`t know if that is cheap compared to USA. And remember that they play in larger stadiums than in USA so I don`t think they will get a much cheaper income here than in USA. In scandinavian they could easily sold out more concerts and that`s business, ain`t it. I am from the country with most income in the world per inhabitants, but I dear not think so cynical as you. Don`t be just pragmatic, be a dreamer too and have good thoughts about the rest of the world. I should invited you over to a beer and a nice discussion, if we don`t agree we could play chess to get a winnersmiling smiley

Great letter Bro.

I have strong feelings about the cancellations and postponements which I'm probably best keeping to myself, though suffice to say, my opinion of the Stones management is not very high.

Hope things turn out for yourself and especially your young son. My heart goes out to the lad.

Interesting. We're smug and we have second rate economies. Do we have any other redeeming qualities that you'd like to bring to our attention ?

Is there a particular reason that you're quite so offensive ?

So the USA (by implication) has a first rate economy?

I somehow doubt whether the good people of New Orleans would agree with you on that one.

Come to think of it: Isn't this that kind of open letter that would be published in for instance Q Magazine, Mojo, New Musical Express and Uncut?

That would make them forced to give an answer.
You can as well add more countries than you mentioned.

Thanks for mainly nice feed-back.
I welcome all the others who are disappointed to post in this thread.

I will follow some of the advices & try to get this in
at some other places.

For those who wondered I (through the edit-function) did actually
undersigned with my own name.

BTW - Claiming it's all about the money here is just
a leave-thin argument: They sold out Ullevi, Göteborg
during the time I need for a good cr*p.

Thanks for reminding us how perfect the US is. As if. :-}

A good initiative, Baboon Bro - good luck! I'm sure you'll let us know if you get a reply.

Dear Europeans, Please excuse Steven's VERY RUDE and inaccurate comments about Europe. Once again, after eating 4 Big Macs and drinking 2 six packs of BUD (beer?) he passed out on the couch with his "How to Be an Arrogant Idiot" self help CD by GWB spinning in his CD player with his headphones still on and a pair of wet jeans on a wet couch after not making it to the toilet on time, sorry......
