not for those who only have tickets for shows postponed to 2007, it isnt!

There's no 2007 shows cancelled because there's no confirmed shows for 2007. There are only speculations that The Stones may tour in Europe in 2007.

ain't it good to be alive!

Yes, I think this is the last tour. Having seen the LA Forum show, there is no reason it needs to be but I think the boys deserve to say farewell, we did it, au revoir!

Exactly. That's why I'm astounded by all of the bitterness and teeth-gnashing of late.

Read into that how you wish. However, the press release on June 2nd listed 21 shows for 2006, with about 10-11 listed as "postponed" - and a statement that the 21 confirmed shows would be "the only Stones concerts in Europe this summer".

By default, that indicates that the "postponed" (ie, not "cancelled") shows will take place in 2007.

Within 3 weeks of that statement, two of those "postponed" shows have now had their status changed to "cancelled" (Frankfurt and Amsterdam #2) with a ludicrous statement that they tried to get a new date but werent able to. Another thread today indicates that Warsaw will follow suit.

So, three weeks since the confirmation of the postponement of these shows to next year, the scoreboard reads :

Number of shows rescheduled - 0 Number of shows postponed - 2 (maybe 3)

Not exactly grounds for optimism, and quite a reasonable excuse for bitterness and teeth-gnashing - especially if you happen to have tickets for shows which you were until a few days ago reassured would take place at a future date.

I understand it that they may go for a European tour next year but for many reasons (logistic, financial etc.) it will be a whole new tour so there's no reason to keep the tickets valid. If the Stones decide to do tour in 2007 there will be new venues, new schedule, new tickets etc. We will see if it happens.

The Forum is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Even with a possible fall tour, it was still the perfect send off and I don't feel the need to see them again.

that scenario would be most welcome. However at the rate shows are dropping off the radar, it would be an even more welcome development if the Stones and their management could reassure hundreds of thousands of people who have tickets for next year and are wondering what the f**k is going on as they see shows being cancelled for what appear to be trivial reasons and with somewhat indecent haste.

Yes, Charlie is tired of every tour in the last 30 years or just he says so...
If the band have to do a "tour part 2" in 2007, i guess Charlie will not say "no".

Well, let's put it this way : There are shows that are supposed to take place after the summer of '06 in Europe according to an official press release from the band itself. It's more than speculation.

This is the first time that I think there is a realistic chance of a tour being the last one. After past tours,I was sure they would be back. Now,I think they will be back but,I'm not sure of it.

I've been convinced from the start of this tour that it would be their last one - an opinion strengthened by the physical frailty of members of the band since the end of the Licks tour. Plus I've heard enough gossip to suggest it will be anyway.

Its natural that with the band being the age they are, that its going to happen sooner or later. At the end of each previous tour, theres always been that depressive feeling that it could have been the last one and that your life wont be quite the same again if thats the case. Gradually, on the last couple of tours and especially on this one, I've been able to deal with that more than before (although obviously this tour isnt over yet so I have that "final show?" scenario yet to come). Whether its a sign of being able to move on emotionally and deal with the inevitable or a case of losing a bit of interest due to dissatisfaction with the band's attitude towards their art and their fans, I'm not so sure. Maybe a bit of both.

It'll be a sad day if it happens and something of a pivotal moment in many of our lives, however I think I'm more able to come to terms with it than I would have been five or ten years ago.

I dont think the band will quit, however, until one of them dies - but I dont expect any lengthy touring after this one. If they ARE going to continue to function as a live act, its going to take a complete about turn in the way they've operate as a touring outfit, because the Stones simply dont come out of mothballs to do a brief tour or "one off" gig. They basically are like a huge corporation which does huge business for a couple of years at a time - and then just folds and disappears for about 18 mnths - 2 years before doing the same all over again.

At this stage in their careers and lives, they dont really have the time on their side to function like that for much longer - however, do they have the inclination to work for shorter spells but on a more regular basis instead? I'm not so sure.

But if I get most of you guys right - maybe we just ought to try to make this tour a really good memory. Collecting the golden moments and doing our best to enjoy ourselves. And - sort of showing them that we've appreciated and cherished every moment of being a Stones-fan. Some moments more than others... If it's the last tour - as we know it - it's sad. People will probably have mourning reactions, say not so nice things and show aggressive, not so friendly attitudes... But please don't ruin this one. Let's just enjoy. Let's all have a good time and get on well with eachother.

Too late. Th Ronnie-Whiners and the setlist-whiners have done enough to make me remember it as a tour where people bitched all the time.

Wow. This thread depresses me. I've always thought the Stones would continue as long as the current members are alive. Sure, they may scale it back, but there would always be hope as long as everyone is breathing. That may not mean a world tour but it may mean a month in Vegas or something. I for one, will go see the boys where ever they perform. Although I know one day it will actually be the end, I try not to think about it. I try to remember the incredible experiences I've had and the ones that are waiting for me at Twickenham.

Great! That's the spirit. If you go see the Stones wherever they play in the future, I'll see you there!

Chuck Berry toured at the age of 60, twenty years ago. Yes we have to appreciate every next gig as if it was the last one. But whatelse have we been doing for the last decade ? About the fragility of The Stones, there is an issue about Keith pre-incident / surgery and on his on-stage performing now. But seriously, he " fell-of" his tree ( official reason ) exactly 2 monthes ago, was given clearance quite fast after this. Charlie is at full speed behind his drums. Mick is still marathoning on stage. Mental to pursue ?

Sure it would be great if they announced today that they will come back to Europe next year. But I think that even they don't know yet if it happens. Maybe when this European tour is over we will hear something new from them. I still hope for that.

Exactly my emotions. Irrational[and arguably sad] though it may be...this band are BIG part of many folks lives. They have been for me...over 35 years of my own life.
One silly pillock who can't really dance and a bunch of scrawny f***ers who couldn't even be bothered to tune up properly for half of the their professional career !
...takes some figuring out really don't it ? ;^)

Well its happened to some degree before

More so on this tour, though - its not that people WANT to feel that way. The band and their management have to take some responsibility for that.

depends on how high you set the standards for "the greatest rock nr oll band in the world". Some people's are based on the principle that theyre just so glad the Stones are still around they'll take anything they can get, regardless of how high the price and how shoddy the service sometimes can be. Other people expect very high standards and a lot of creativity for the amount of money they're paying for the privilege

You'll probably find however that the vast majority of people are somewhere in between the two

I find the whole notion of 'the greatest rock n roll band in the world' doing one month seasons in Las Vegas to be a REAL sign of the end of civilization as I know it. It would be a final naili in their coffin as far as credibility is concerned

The rest of your post however I agree with. Hope that they'll still be a working band as long as theyre still alive, but as I said earlier it'll take a complete sea change in the way they operate now to make that remotely possible

I think the Stones will play till they die. Just like the old bluesmen. I can't imagine they'll just quit, at least they will never quit offical.

Re: Are you afraid this is the last Stones tour?

about an hour if youre lucky (whatever it is, in his contract he has a set time that he will agree to play for and he WONT go a minute over it)

But then Chuck Berry isnt the Stones and he has been a nostalgia-only act for over 40 years - nor is he charging about $500 for a ticket

Theres no comparison, really

Re: Are you afraid this is the last Stones tour?

Chuck Berry's always been like that. It's his nature...and was evident within the stories he told in Hail Hail Rock n Roll... which I believe many folks are revisiting now that the new DVD package is out.

I first saw Chuck in about 1974 or 5. Exactly the same. Shit "pick up band", 30 minutes of mediocre performance, no encore... and gone. For a 15 year old who held him as an idol, it was very disappointing.

I think the Stones' perception of what the fans want is often a little misguided, but nobody can accuse them of not putting a lot of effort into giving what they consider to be the best show they can.
