"River Deep, Mountain High", Ike and Tina Turner. The classic Phil Spector "wall of sound". Exciting every time I hear it. Tina Turneer was at her screaming best then.

Allright Karl, I hear ya.
but if I tell my drummer, "can you put a motown beat on that?"
he knows what I'm talkin' about, right

I'd think, there's no big difference in the beat, between the publishing labels.
fill me in, if else - please.
I'm open minded for conclusions. no b/s.

Well it is all soul music, and the differences are not great. Also it's hard to generalize about large groups of artists. But...to my ears the Stax sound is a little slower, a little funkier, and the songs revolve around the beat more. Stax music is a little more recognizable - Motown a little more diverse in sound. Just my opinion....

I love both Motown and Stax, but Stax (as well as the rest of the Memphis and Mussel Shoals music scene) is greasier, funkier, more rural, and more soulful - i. e. more gospel influenced than Motown. Motown = superbly written, played, sang, produced and danced music. A lot more urban and slick than Stax and friends.

The Funk Brothers vs. Booker T. and the M. G.'s - what a battle of the bands!

Another gem - "Tramp" by Otis and Carla Thomas

Geezz...I'm amazed reading the name of Jordi Savall on this board. And I couldn't agree more: baroque music should be played and heard on period instruments.

Mentioned before in another thread but valid nevertheless: Un Poco Loco and Parisian Thoroughfare, for the manic and lyrical side of Bud Powell. Music has never been played more intense than this.

Ohh yes Never More". How about the "Infra Riot"?

I don't knoiw if one can say Primal Scream is stonesy. When they WANT to they are IMO the most stonesy band except the real deal. More than the Crowes. But they only choose it every 10 years or so. Thing about PS is that they are so f*cking good that they can pick which version they want to be today and always rule.

20th Century Boy, T.Rex! A band totally under estimated while Marc Bolan was alive.
And I refuse not to mention a Stones-tune: And realise I can't just pick one! It's impossible. I'll just say: Most of Exile.

"Most of" Exile, Shidoobee?

Of 18 tracks, I don't know which ones would NOT be considered gems. Each track is brilliant in its own way.

Hey Nico,
I am totally fine. I changed jobs and the new job requires much more work and allows much less time to goof off on the computer.
Thanks for asking.
