Judging from the pictures, a regular 1961/1962 Tele.

Watching to 81-82 like Hampton Collectors Edition with backstage video and Four Flicks or some b2b/No security tour,í´m sure enough Ronnie have 2 early 52 Tele-type guitars.I explain:

-81/82:you can see Ronnie 52 type Tele have walnut strip down back of maple neck and walnut "tear" on headstock and colour is a bit transparent. So it could be a 52 Tele or maybe a Broadcaster/Nocaster.This is

-Seen clearly on FF Twickenham b-stage songs and on many B2b and No security,is this

It oesn´t have the tear on the headstock and on the dvd you can clearly see it has no walnut strip down back of maple neck and also pickguard have the "paint-halo"(this last thing it´s not clarifying cause overs the years coul appear on both guitars). So i think this is an very early ESQUIRE...read

Vintage Guitars Collector quote:
When first announced in June of 1950 (but available a bit earlier) as Fender's first electric solidbody, the Esquire was a available with either one or two pickups...Most 1950 Esquires had no truss rod (no contrasting strip down back of maple neck)...The Esquire only lasted in this form until the Broadcaster replaced it in October of 1950. The Esquire was re-introduced in January 1951 as a one pickup version of the Broadcaster (Telecaster), with a truss rod.....All Broadcasters have truss rods, where many 1950 Esquires often have no truss rod. "

Excuse me for ths big post...but what´s your opinion about that?agree with me?

Wow, I think you're right! I don't have a clear picture of the back of the Broadcaster to see the walnut strip, but clearly the later pictures show an Esquire -the walnut truss rod filling is missing!

What you refer to as paint halo is actually just finger wear. The "halo" is found on the back site of the guard. They would put the pickguard on a tun can and spray the front and back with clear lacquer. So, where the can is, there is no paint. As far as I can see, both guitars show the finger wear on the fon of the puck guard.

Slide guitar question? On the above pix of Keith & Ronnie from '81 (JJF?) Ronnie is wearing what appears to be a very small black slide. Are those meant for use on one or two strings? Has he used one since?

Yeah Mathijs is finger wear, but it´s form is very typical on the very early Blackguards that have the paint halo in the back of the pickguard.I haven´t see it on any Keith´s and he uses it a lot...Could it be because them are most 53 and 54 teles?(and a few reliced custom shops)

You don't see it on Keith's because the material is different, namel vinyl instead of fiberous bakelite.

You can spot the early esquire quite easily from the front too...by the absence of the walnut plug in the headstock.

And yes, Ronnie did have a number of Tokais for the 81 82 tour. That helped cement Tokai's reputation as a maker of good guitars.
I've always been curious as to the story behind this. Did he have an endorsement deal of some kind ? Or did he just need to augment the number of guitars at his dosposal for the tour and found the Tokais at that time to be the thing that played and performed most like a Vintage Fender.
[Fender's own Japanese & USA Vintage reissues hadn't hit the market in '81..and the Tokais were as good as any of those anyway]

hello,
according to an old interview on a '95 Guitarist, Ronnie stated that his whitish tele with rosewood fingerboard is a 1963 model; the butterscotch Tele is a 1952 model.

i think ronnie started using the tokai jap strat copies for the 81-82 tour because he had a significant amount of guitars stolen from him and he needed some tools (guitars) for the tour .

A new Esquire for Ronnie??
You can see clearly that only has 1 single coil pick-up on the bridge position on minute 1:25 from the video below
Maybe a new vintage piece or maybe a Fender CS edition...who knows?

The strat equipped with the the Floyd Rose tremelo which Ronnie used during the 81 tour is a Tokai. I read an interview in which Ronnie told that he did not want to mess up his vintage Strats.

Cheers,

Aad

Are there some pics that are missing on Page 1 of this thread? Reptile and Erik seem to be discussing guitars that I am not seeing.
Reason I came here is because of the new thread re. Ronnie on Guitar Player. My question: do we know when Ron acquired the Strats? He obviously considers them his main battle axes. But through the Faces days, the 75/76 Stones tour and through '78 (maybe even '81, not sure) he doesn't seem to rely on a Strat that much. With Faces definitely and on Stones 75/76 tour his sound is way thicker and more natural sustained. I always loved his sound; with the Faces I thought he really had is very own sound. The way he used those Zemaitis was brilliant.
I am actually surprised that in Ron's segment of Ratbag there wasn't a separate thread for his Zemaitis guitars. But hey, I'm not knocking Ratbag Boogie.

I love that shot; the sky is eerie, there is a smokestack on the odd looking palace. Jagger is wearing a peculiar jacket to offset that damn! headset mike. Ronnie looks almost like he could be offending somebody.

Well on his new Faces live shows Ronnie showed a couple of "new" Esquire guitars
My guesses:
1-Esquire blonde white guard: i think this is a Bill Nash guitar property of Alan Rogan (Ronnie´s guitar tech on this tour),i said this because i saw a pic of Ronnie´s guitars on the rehearsals and on one of the back of the tele-style headstocks you can read something like "To Alan from Bill.BN `07"

2-Esquire butterscotch blackguard: i thinks it´s an old early Fender from the fifties or a reliced Custom Shop model

What´s your opinion?
