So where is the opening show on July 8 ???
Posted by: rrronnie ()
Date: May 29, 2006 22:23

This is getiing more and more exciting. I know one should be cool and patient and wait for the official announcement, but I find it really hard NOT to speculate on the rescheduled dates. So there are some hints or rumours the opening night will be on July 8. As it is probably not going to be Brussels (stadium obviously booked for some sports event) where else will it be ? Any ideas? Another idea concerning the gap between July 23 and July 30 they could fill that gap with two dates in the Benelux-Central Europe area - Brussels and Paris would fit logistically....I think I'd better stop speculating but what can a poor boy do these days.
Get well, Keith, this place is empty without you...

Seoul, South Korea, I hope, as that's where I'll be in July . . .

the Stones don't have much of a following in korea, so they could play a nice small venue smiling smiley

been doing that myself since about October last year!

possibly a country unlikely to be taking place in the final of the World Cup that weekend. Belgium would have fitted the bill quite nicely.

well, there has to be TWO shows in Paris, dont forget, and I think its pretty much logical that when these shows are rearranged they will take place together. My guess would be they'd be over a weekend instead of midweek which would be the case if they took place at that time

Also, as pointed out previously by erikjjf, the Stones always take a break after they play four shows, so there might only be room for one show between the 23rd and 30th

For the same reason, if they open on 8th July, thats shows on the 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th. Maybe they'll open on the 7th instead or else they reckon after such a long break they can do five in a row.

Where does that date of July 8 really come from actually ?

The RS.com doesn't mention this date and just says that "The tour will now kick off at the beginning of July at a venue and city to be announced."

As far as I know the French newspaper Le Parisien did first report this date of July 8, then many local ticket promoters picked up this date but I wonder if this comes from pure speculation based on the date of the last cancelled gig (July 5 in Zagreb) or if it really comes from the Stones management ?

Makes sense to me, Gazza. But what the heck. We can only wait for the official announcements...

July 8 came from an Italian newsagent along with the French state radio.
Pravda, nowadays a Russian-international tabloid, also was involved.
My guess is that someone put their filthy hands on Keith's med.journal:
July 8 was the first date he could, insurance-wise because of
medical conditions, perform.
Paris will probably be the opener, if I shall throw in my 50c here.
Then they may return for 1-2 gigs between 23rd and 20th of July
oin Be-Ne-Lux-area and/or Paris.
and maybe they also close the tour in this area.
Remember its not too far from Mick's chateau.

I think that the July 8th date came from the French radio that said that Keith wouldn't be fit to play before that date...To my knowledge they never said that the tour will start on that day...

six more days until the announcement...

No, Leteyer, thay didnt say that -
but we have three-four venues claiming
to be Euro-opener 7th or 8th of July plus there is a scheduled
gap of five days, now three. Dinner is ready for
a gig at July 8, given that is the date
when Mr Richards will be fit to play
(which by all means aint too certain).
Judging from the many euro-opener candidates
it looks like this is the case.

LQ: When is an announcement said to be out?
And who said that?

the Czech promoter said the new date will be announced "till june 5th" -
whatever that means. :E

could be Germany... I don't see why that would be a problem

"not after"?

Re: So where is the opening show on July 8 ???

Germany would not be a problem;
but still Jagger resides in France.
If we see the many gigs scheduled for Germany,
they hardly have problems playin' there.
Nürnberg is at least no 2 on a Euro tour.

But the announcementy date:
I'm afraid we might have a Horsens paralel...
Someone tosses up a date and - whambam - we have a
D-Day. I wont be surprised if all days 'till' the 5th
pass by without anything at all, plus the 5th as well.

Stade de France is not available on July 8th.
I think the tour will begin in Nürnberg on July 10, even if Keith has been given the green light to play on July 8th.
When the European tour was delayed in 1998, Keith was cleared to play from June 10th onwards. The tour still didn't begin until June 13th (in Nürnberg), beacuse it was the first scheduled show after June 10th.

Sounds fair enough, Erik, but it aint 1998 now...

Re: So where is the opening show on July 8 ???

Didn't say it was 1998, just mentioned how a similar situation was handled in the past.
Now, with the Austrian ticket agency saying that Vienna is rescheduled for July 14, I'm not so sure about a Nürnberg start. If Frankfurt (July 14th) will be moved, it is likely that Nürnberg and Leipzig will be moved (or, in the worst case, cancelled) as well.

As Erik said, the Stade de France is not available on that date so we know for sure that the tour wont start there...Is Brussels a possibility??? Or it will go on "as planned" starting on the 10th in Nurnberg???

Hope they announce something soon...I work with logisticians and know what a nightmare is the smallest change of plan..Can you imagine reschedule a Stones tour.

Brussels is not a possibility, there are championships there (athletics) from the 5th till the 9th of july.

however rs.com have stated that the tour will begin 'at the beginning of July at a venue and a city to be announced'

Had it been as simple as the tour starting on the 10th (the first show after the 15 postponed shows) they would have indicated that Nuremburg was to be the first show. It makes sense

However, the wording of the statement suggests a date earlier than the 10th and that it would be one of the 15 postponed dates. The fact that Vienna is now confirmed for July 14th (when they were due to play Frankfurt) suggests some of the slower selling shows that werent affected by the postponements are being moved or even cancelled to make room for those that were selling well.

if the european leg starts in July 8th, i think probably will be in Barcelona.....
promotor here is fighting to get the opening night...
and why they want to kick off in July 8th... this date is not in the list of concerts....
if not logical 1st concert in Nuremberg Germany

genco

They also say the tour will start at 8 july.

So no Brussels and no Paris on July 8th for sure...Why they don't start at Zagreb either on the originalscheduled date the 6th or move it to the 8th???

Either way, the fact that Vienna seems to be "confirmed" on the 14th is the best news in a long, long time. THE SHOW GOES ON.

i keep hoping they'll announce a totally new venue for the opening, just to show they are the Rolling Stones.
but meanwhile i dreamed that Mick told Cohl to let Keith figure the whole rescheduling mess out.
it seemed very realistic. :E

Keith, be well - all the way, baby, all the way

uh, yeah but considering the fact theyve already allocated about 40-50,000 seats with specific rows and numbers, its going to be somewhat tricky to find one of the exact same seating plan and capacity to re-distribute the tickets identically.....

None with the capacity of the Baudouin Stadium.
The other stadiums are much smaller and don't have any experience with concerts

The date of July 8th was advised by the doctor's, because KEEF needs 2 months recovery time from the surgery of May 8th. There may be rehearsal time before the first gig, so it's likely the opening day is not July 8th, it may be a few days later.

Or so:

Official information on a new date for the RS concert

The organizer of the Rolling Stones concert in St. Petersburg PMI corporation announces that the only show by the legendary rockers previously planned for June 13th 2006 will take place at the Kirov stadium, but will be moved to the first half of July. The exact date of the concert will be announced shortly. All tickets sold previously are VALID.

The organizers believe that the movement of the date will make the show even more special, as it may become the opening show in the European leg of the band's tour.

KASSIR.RU comments:
Confirmation of the show taking place is good news for all fans of the Rolling Stones!

Don't postpone to book your tickets as with the heavy coverage of the situation around the concert by the mass media ticket sales increased dramatically in the past couple of weeks and the admission is still limited.

If they don't cancel/postpone more shows the tour start will be in Nuremberg, July 10th. Perfect as they can stay in Munich and can rehearse there as they did in 2003.
