I am sitting in a hotel room in Tokyo on a business trip. The Saitama concert has just started, and I am watching. Damn, I wish I had a DVD-R.
They have just finished IORR and are starting LSTNT, and it is great. Keith is on fire!!!! Jesus, wow, wow, wow. Watching this, I just pray that he recovers.
It's great - No commercials, pro shot, no cuts or overdubs, Nice, wide shots, clean mix. Loose performance, sloppy in spots (ONNYA, RFD), but what the hell ... that's the Stones. I love the fact that the whole band is in the frame, since the Arena shows use a smaller stage.
It's fantastic how they get Mick, Keith, Ronnie, Charlie and Daryl in a wide shot on Midnight Rambler. You guys have to see this -- The Japanese really know what they're doing.

drbryant, you were lucky to watch it on TV. Midnight Rambler was part of the show. I guess it was the highlight of the show. A Japanese friend of mine has recorded on DVD the TV show for me. I hope it will work. I am eager to receive it...

This show is definitely worth owning -- it's the entire show uncut (2 hours and 5 minutes) from opening film to final bows, with no commercial interruptions. I have not seen so much interaction between band members on any video. They are clearly enjoying themselves. The B-Stage footage alone is worth it -- I have not seen any video that really captures the excitement of a B-Stage set the way this does. Keith is just great. He has a few questionable solos (ONNYA, SFTD), but he just smokes on the B-Stage. The mix is fine, except that Ronnie is somewhat low in the mix (could have been my one-speaker TV in my hotel room). He makes up for it with great slide on Happy, and by enthusiastically running around the B-Stage during his solo on Start Me Up.
Viewing this, it just occurred to me that over the years, I have enjoyed the boots of the Japan broadcasts much more than the officially released videos. You get the full show, without editing and overdubs. All the between-song patter, all the mistakes, etc. all make a show what it is. I suspect that if you own this show and Rio, the official DVD will be unnecessary.
