LONDON - The Rolling Stones on Wednesday postponed the first 15 dates of their European tour as guitarist Keith Richards recovers from a head injury.

Stones publicist LD Communications said the European leg of the band's "A Bigger Bang" tour, which had been due to start Friday in Barcelona, Spain, would now begin in July at a venue and city to be announced.

It said the rescheduled dates would be announced in the next few days.

The postponed gigs were scheduled for Barcelona and Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Paris; Bergen, Norway; Horsens, Denmark; Gothenburg, Sweden; St. Petersburg, Russia; Brno, Czech Republic; Warsaw, Poland; Vienna, Austria; Milan, Italy; Athens, Greece; and Zagreb, Croatia.

The postponement of the two Paris shows on June 3 and July 2 was announced Tuesday by French organizers.

Richards, 62, was injured April 27 in Fiji. News reports variously claimed that he fell out of a palm tree or from a jet ski. Richards later had surgery in New Zealand to relieve pressure in his head.

The Stones' official fan Web site said in a statement Monday that Richards had returned to the United States, where he lives, and "is feeling great, happy to be home and looking forward to getting back on the road with the Rolling Stones next month."

It wasn't due to start in Barcelona on FRIDAY - the bloody idiots - it was supposed to start on SATURDAY.

Christ almighty, if you're gonna be in the "communications" business, then at least "communicate" the correct facts !! What a sad joke ?

In fact, European Tour will start no before July.
Also, and for who has got tickets for Madrid and Barcelona, perhaps these shows will be in August (you know, a very hot days in Spain in August), in the place of Jerez and Zaragoza unconfirmed shows.

Sherer, I guess there soon will be a press release there saying; "New dates to be announced shortly."

RS.com is run from NY, it's 6.50 am there now. So don't expect any updates from them for a couple of hours.

well with this being all over the net from from a reliable news agency they better put something out today or it just shows RS.COM is just about getting our money

I got an official announcement from Finnish (co-)promotor of the St. Petersburg concert. They confirm that the first 15 shows have been postponed. No new dates yet.

Thanks "with sssoul" and "Baboon".. Nah, things could always be worse - there could have been no tour at all... Just looking forward to the rescheduled tour dates to arrive "shortly" (hehe)

can't believe it...just wanna cry. i had tickets for milan and already planned my holidays in july (i got the fly tix). now i'm really upset. I know it's nobody fault but just can't believe it. It was my first Front Of Stage stones concert...i had to go there whit my best frind...i got the tix the very first day...and we were dreaming that for months! Now please somebody tell me it won't postponed...

The first 15 shows seem to sell quite well, so roughly 800.000
people have to change plans etc. Did they hear any SORRY from
the band or Keith or RS.COM?
