Because it will help complete your Stone's collection! There is enough good stuff to justify the purchase.

If you do buy it, and think it's shit the first listen. That's because it has to grow on you. So keep listening to it, and you will begin to like even more each listen. I thought it was weak at first, but now I like it.

I heard ER when it was first released, and almost spat out my beer when I heard the song Emotional Rescue. I wanted to vomit.
With that said, Summer Romance is the standout track, Let Me Go is amazing, and Down In The Hole is great.
Dance (pt.1) is also great, along with She's So Cold. The rest pails in comparison.

The title track should have NEVER been released, it leaves a horrible taste in the mouth of any true Stones fan.
The bass line played by Ronnie sounds like he was actually playing the bass with his feet.

Goats Head Soup is a far supeior album compared to the mess that is Emotional Rescue

I got it from my first girlfriend as a birthday present. I am still grateful to her, though I don't know what happened to her throughout the years.

Buy it, copy it except first track and possibly not either Indian Girl.
Put some fine outtakes from the period in their places - voilá!

Yeah, DITH is severely underrated.

DITH is excellent but it sounds like part of a jam the way it fades in. I don't think they worked on it much BUT it has that classic Stones blues sound that they can do in their sleep. With that said it is probably the best song on ER....Too Bad there's not a super long version out there.

Re: reason for buying emotional rescue

Some reasons:

Dance
Down In The Hole
Where The Boys Go
Summer Romance
She's So Cold

All great songs, but the rest is IMO mediocre.

i think it is better than its reputation - not ranking among their best records, but neither among their worst! And for sure worth buying!

I think very good songs are: She's So Cold, Down In The Hole, Summer Romance and the title track! Good ones: All about you, Dance and Where The Boys Go! Couldn´t get warm with neiter Let me go nor Send it to me. The one song i can´t stand: Indian Girl!

Love Dance pt 1 (and the liveversion from the lickstour was fantastic), ER, and She's So Cold. And Send It ToMe, Down In The Hole and all About You are good as well.

Better than Dirty Work, Undercover, Bridges To Babylon and Steel Wheels.

I cannot convince you because I felt the same. I even got this record as a present (but not a personal gift) and I gave it away because I really did not like it. It wasn't bad at all...just so very boring. And Let me go or She's so cold are on the live albums and bootlegs from the 1981 tour.

Same with DIRTY WORK.

It takes me back to a happy time and place - South Georgia 1980 (I was 19). A fun, summertime party CD. Letting it blast while we were swimming, partying, chasing girls, etc. - you know, the fun stuff. Don't take it too seriously, just go with the music.

Nice nostalgic image, Elmo. I was 21 at the time. I wrote about a similar walk down memory lane regarding the song Emotional Rescue a few days ago, in the thread "which stones-songs you really dont like??-just 5!"

Some great songs on it but I hate Where The Boys Go, maybe my least favorite Stones' song.

My favorites on the album are She's So Cold and Down in a Hole.

always saddens me when you mention this. anything I can do to change your mind?

The album suffers by being in the middle of two strong and coherent albums, Some Girls and Tattoo You, but it has its own decadent charm. The band is in a great and groovy form, even though the songs are not their strongest. Some bloody hassle happened in the production room as well (Mick and Keith's first big power battle), thereby its incoherent feeling and somehow over-all confusing atmosphere. With some better concentration and production the album could hace been much better, I think. And some gems were left in the vaults.

But hell, the natural groove and bleeding guitar web of, say, "Let Me Go" or "Summer Romance" beats any post-Undercover stuff anytime, or perhaps anything ever.

I can quite happily listen to this album. I like the [probably deliberate] "post punk garage band" sound of the rocky tracks and the guitar sounds are great..not too processed or overly compressed.
..and DITH is definately a sleeping classic.

i think you mean a "sleeper." "sleeping" doesn't sound like much of a complement, spud.

Keep talking 'bout DITH & sooner or later they mught just
pick it up... Some word-spreadin' about SSC here before it got dusted off...
Not to mention Sway...
Not that I believe they follow any peculiar posting here,
but sure as h*ll the updated Jagger follows the main lines in these topics...

Emotional Rescue is just OKAY and nothing more. I would class it as "Stones completes only" album because in all honesty, by not owning it, you're not missing much. I really like All About You and a few of the rockers, but it's Sub-par in a big way. Undercover is MUCH better.

Its a question if you like loud and exaggerated drum sounds
or if you want your Stones crisp, cranky punkish and fine-tuned.

ER is MUCH better than UC. Everybody knows that.
