it was said quite early on in all this - i forget by whom, maybe the resort owner? -
that Ron and Jo had left Fiji around the same time Keith did. they're all just staying out of sight, in unison.

Today's Daily Mail newspaper here in the UK has Jo saying that she's given up trying to get Ronnie to stop drinking so it's safe to assume he's back on the hard stuff again :-(

sad news, if true.
i don't think i would affect his playing much -
maybe he'd even be more relaxed or selfconfident
or "inspired", but what we know about his health...
it seems to me, we might see him smoking on stage
on the european leg of the tour.
really sad.

That's it. Charlie doesn't bother anymore. quits. Keith is brain damaged. Can't play. Ronnie's drinking and can't remember the chords....Leaves Mick alone AS The Rolling Stones. Chuck, Blondie and Bernard leaves. Don't wanna be alone with Mick. Lisa and the horns think it all sucks, so the quit without notice...So this leaves Mick alone with......Bobby Keys, who doesn't know right from wrong...he just laughs all the time. Mick and Bobby doing the set just the two of them. Mick on harm and Keys on sax....shit! That's sad.

This is really terrible news. These are hard times for Stones fans. Every time before I look at this board I'm frightened to read more sad news....

If Ronnie is drinking it may be because he wants to enjoy hos break before getting sober again before the tour starts again.
I am not an alcoholic, but I read several times that it is better to get a hangover from time to time than drink less but every single day. He may have taken a break and get sober again for the forthcoming months, who knows...

good point - in the past it was frightening to look at this board because of posters like me. now it's because of the band itself.

all good things must come to an end...eventually....

i thought about this being the last big tour when this one started up last May, first of all i was wondering why so soon after Licks - only 1 year off?? - Charlie cancer scare, then the name of the new album (going out with A BIGGER BANG), etc etc etc ... everything seems to suggest it and now this with keef and who knows about Ronnie, you cannot stop someone from doing what they want to do whether it is destructive for them or not... Jo is right there is nothing she can do except remove herself from the situation if it gets too bad, hopefully it wont there are various stages of alcoholism and problem drinking, just because he is drinking again does not necessarily mean that he will destroy himself with it....

this is the last big tour for them, i am sure of it, just look at the pics of keef leaving the hospital, he looks good but dam he also looks OLD ... older than i have ever seen him... i dont think any of them will ever stop playing...but i think if they tour at all it will be very small and very quite and very sporadic... which would be WONDERFUL... i saw Buddy Guy at the HOB in AC and seeing James Brown there next weekend, a fantastic small venue and a great place for keef or mick or charlie or ronnie to play one day i hope i hope i hope...

I love the Stones more than anything and it is great seeing them out on a worldwide tour again, but it doesnt always have to be about these HUGE productions.... does it???

the Licks tour technically ended in october 03, with the Hong Kong gigs tacked on in november as an exceptional thing;
the ABB tour started in august 05. seems like about the same gap as between the Voodoo Lounge and Bridges tours.
which doesn't mean shorter scaled-down tours wouldn't be beautiful too. :E

I hope Ronnie doesn't fall too far off the wagon.

This tour, he doesn't seem like the Ronnie I've seen in the past. He's usually smiling and just seems so carefree. He didn't seem that way this tour. He smiled, but it just didn't seem that lighthearted. It was just my impression, but it made me sad.

But if all of a sudden Dylan started smiling - people would be wondering what's wrong. Like perhaps he is all drugged up or something, since it's out of character.
